Falcons sign Dezmen Southward to wrap up draft class

In this photo taken on Friday, May 16, 2014, Atlanta Falcons rookie defensive back Dezmen Southward stretches during an NFL rookie minicamp football practice Friday, May 16, 2014 in Flowery Branch, Ga. Southward is still wondering how good fortune came his way so soon after the NFL scouting combine. After having to miss the workout portion of the combine in February, he didn’t expect to hear his name called until the third and final day of the draft. Instead, the Falcons chose him early in the third round, 68th overall, and Southward says they won’t regret the decision. (AP Photo/John Bazemore)

At this rate, the entire NFL Draft class might be signed by Bastille Day. If not sooner.

The Falcons announced they had signed third-rounder Dezmen Southward today, wrapping up their draft class.

The safety from Wisconsin never missed a game in his college career, and will have an opportunity to make a quick impact for a Falcons secondary in flux.

The Falcons signed veteran safety Dwight Lowery this offseason after letting Thomas DeCoud go, but they could use someone in the back who could make a play, especially with the upheaval at the second level of their defense.
