Steelers sign Dri Archer

Dri Archer AP

Running back Dri Archer was the fastest player at this year’s combine, but he was on the slower side when it came to signing his contract with the Steelers.

Field Yates of ESPN.com reports that Archer has gotten around to that bit of business and agreed to a four-year deal with the team. The Steelers selected Archer in the third round with the 97th overall pick.

Reports out of Pittsburgh have the Steelers looking at Archer as a returner in hopes of allowing him to use his speed to burn opposing coverage units. Archer ran for 22 touchdowns and nearly 2,000 yards over his final two years at Kent State, but his size will likely limit him to a specialty role on offense in the NFL.

With Archer’s deal done, third-round defensive end Stephon Tuitt is the only unsigned member of the Steelers draft class.

Let’s hope he turns out to be the steelers version of Darren Sproles.

One things for sure. The steelers are going to be much younger and faster than they were 2 or 3 years ago. Whether or not that translates to more than 8 wins remains to be seen.

I’m a huge fan of this kid… This is Haley’s 2nd attempt at this kinda playmaker… The Chris Rainey project didn’t work out to good due to Chris’s off the field choices… Gonna be a exciting season for sure!

This begs an obvious question: who in the hell names their kid “Field”?

Haha the steelers lost to Tebow years ago in a playoff game and have been irrelevant ever since

Who knows, with this guy in the mix Ben may average FIVE touchdowns a game, instead of four.

Great news. If he’s half of what sproles or Charles are then he’s a gem. It’s tuitt we need to sign, I think he’s a more important rookie than Shazier, we need dominant 3-4 ends if our lbs are to succeed, Aaron smith still has not been replaced, looks like heyward is on the right track so if tuitt works on the other side we could be set for the next half decade in a return to huge sack totals and dominant defense. If the blockers can’t be held up then it doesn’t really matter who we have at OLB they aren’t going to be optimised.

Archer will be an immediate upgrade on kickoff returns and one of the most exciting players in the league.

Skippy you pay way too much of your invaluable time on an irrelevant team like the a Steelers this suggests that you are in need of help…not in just crossing the street, but in adjusting to the reality of good sports franchises. But please don’t stop as your constant mantra makes me laugh and pray that you don’t have kids. Bet they will be Steeler fans to spite your sorry a–.
