Report: Beason needs surgery for broken foot, out 12 weeks

The Giants were hoping for the best on linebacker Jon Beason’s injury yesterday.

They didn’t necessarily get it.

According to Kimberly Jones of the NFL Network, the Giants middle linebacker suffered a sesamoid fracture in right foot which will require surgery. His recovery is estimated at 12 weeks.

That makes the next question for the Giants the timetable. Since 12 weeks pushes past the start of the regular season, Beason could go on the physically unable to perform list, leaving the window open after six weeks.

While it does leave some hope for the regular season, it’s still a tough blow for the Giants. The veteran linebacker helped stabilize things for them in the middle after coming over in a trade with the Panthers last year, and there’s not an immediate on-roster replacement.

If they think he can come back in that time frame, that might keep them from making a run at a veteran, while they see how he recovers.

Could be more or less, you don’t PUP him if he can be back by week 3 or 4.

Could be worse, feel bad for him heal well beason..

Even though I’m a Giants fan I still feel worse for Sean Lee.

  4. TheDPR says: Jun 13, 2014 11:30 AM

At this point I think it’s probably more newsworthy when Jon Beason is NOT injured.

  5. scoops1 says: Jun 13, 2014 11:34 AM

52 should be retired already by Giants

  6. realfootballfan says: Jun 13, 2014 11:34 AM

Just like Sean Lee, some guys just aren’t built for the rigors of the NFL. At least this time, his injury happened in the off-season, and he’ll only miss the first month.

  7. rippedoffhead says: Jun 13, 2014 11:35 AM

Yeah being June 13th… a 3 month recovery I would think is good news…

Better news than the Falcons and such have received.

  8. n0hopeleft says: Jun 13, 2014 11:36 AM

He’ll be back by week one the latest. Rested, and ready to make a run. This is not a big deal. If anything, it helps backups gain experience.

  9. sicklife1 says: Jun 13, 2014 11:37 AM

PUP him to open up a roster spot, sign a veteran LB to take his place for now (Vilma, Angerer, Connor). Hopefully the above will play well enough that when Beason is ready to come back, we can have some nice veteran depth for the rest of the season.

Jon Beason was great in Carolina before his downward injury spiral started. I’m really sorry to hear about this latest issue with his foot. Man, playing in the NFL is just plain tough, especially when age starts to catch up with a guy and the injuries won’t stop coming.

  11. coldwater32301 says: Jun 13, 2014 11:39 AM

Thats great news for him, i was hoping it was not season ending…

  12. hugeredskinsfan says: Jun 13, 2014 11:40 AM

Yikes. The NFC East is going to be battered by other divisions. There is not a top 20 defense in the bunch now after Lee’s and Beason’s injuries.

Maybe I’m wrong, but isn’t 12 weeks from now September 5th?? That would be before the season starts.

  15. chawkup says: Jun 13, 2014 11:57 AM

Every NFC West team would win the NFC East.

  16. trefkennedy says: Jun 13, 2014 11:58 AM

G-men,Skins,Eagles and Us TeamCowboys, have no form of defense, expect plenty of shoot outs this season

  17. s0merand0mguy says: Jun 13, 2014 12:13 PM

Eagles have no defense? lol.. okay… You are going to be in for a surprise come season time.

  18. phillysports1 says: Jun 13, 2014 12:30 PM

Eagles running away with the Division early this year. No competition

  19. lic112014 says: Jun 13, 2014 12:48 PM

Let’s hope he’s ok in 12 weeks with no setbacks. He has a history of being injured, that’s why Panthers let him go for a 7th round pick.Giants need him because he’s the quarterback of the defense.

And so it begins. Half the starters will be on the IR by week 6. Unbelieveable. How can anyone get excited when they get hurt in practice?

  23. zack2482 says: Jun 13, 2014 1:44 PM

Eagles aren’t winning the East. Foles is fools gold and now that there is a years worth of tape, he will be exposed. See RGIII as an example.

which nfc east team has never won a super bowl?

  27. gianthater says: Jun 13, 2014 3:16 PM

12 weeks out n than the rehab beguines. There’s no telling at this point how long he’s going to b out. In fact at some point, if he’s not moving well, with his history of injuries, don’t b surprised if the jints put him on IR. But waite, there’s good news for jint fans. Now they have ligitiment excuses for y the jint defense playes like Swiss cheese with all their holes. And giant fans, do yourself a favor so your not living in a dream world, n check out the Eagle roster. It’s not just the offense that’s scary, but how about what’s going on defensively. At that point, giant fans will get a taste of reality. The Eagles r the cream, at least in the east, n may yet prove to b the best in NFL.

Too bad, but at least it wasn’t season ending.

  29. phillysports1 says: Jun 13, 2014 3:34 PM

Which NFC east team ranks #1 in most valuable NFL TEAM of 2.3 billion & hasn’t made a playoff appearance in 5 years ?

  30. phillysports1 says: Jun 13, 2014 3:36 PM

I’ll kiss the ring if you share some PEDS ?

  31. nfljim60 says: Jun 13, 2014 4:33 PM

That is why the Panthers traded him. Couldn’t stay healthy and Luke Kuechly is younger, better & cheaper.

  32. magikskillz says: Jun 13, 2014 5:05 PM

Injuries always suck but that being said this is perfect timing. 12 Weeks from now is the week of September 5th and the Giants first game is week 8. Barring any setbacks Jon Beason will probably play that monday nighter against Megatron and the Lions. Just plain idiocracy to put him on PUP list.

  33. magikskillz says: Jun 13, 2014 5:06 PM

I meant to say september 8th sorry

  34. magikskillz says: Jun 13, 2014 5:09 PM

    Dgimbz says:
“Could be more or less, you don’t PUP him if he can be back by week 3 or 4.”

Correction: You don’t PUP a guy when he is going to be back for the 1st game.

  35. gianthater says: Jun 13, 2014 7:20 PM

Get ready for giant fans excuses for not winning. Let me get the crying towels ready for them. Their crying already n it’s only June. By September they will need bed sheets to cry in.Lol
