Cowboys sign first-rounder Zack Martin

Zack Martin AP

Zack Martin has already made a huge impact on the Cowboys’ season, and now he’s officially a Cowboy.

According to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com, Martin signed his four-year rookie contract Monday.

Martin has worked at both guard and center during Cowboys OTAs, but he was unfortunate to have been the guy blocking linebacker Sean Lee when Lee suffered a torn ACL earlier this offseason.

Second-rounder DeMarcus Lawrence is their lone remaining unsigned pick.

The Cowboys will forever regret passing on Teddy Bridgewater.

Tony Romo will never win another playoff game.

Can we please stop throwing this kid under the bus for the Sean Lee injury? Sean Lee himself said before any contact with Martin happened he tried to plant his foot to stop to change directions and that’s when he tore his knee. He fell to the ground because of the injury which took out Martin.

While Jerry loses in public opinion, he wins here with Martin. Despite scoring 27.4 pts/game they were still very low on 3rd down conversions and time of possession (26th and 24th respectively). I think Martin may help limit the low-end D’s exposure by improving those numbers. Hard to be scored on when the other team doesn’t have the ball.

Tex Schram built the most consistently excellent team in sports history (20 consecutive playoff appearances) by taking the most talented player available in the draft regardless of short term “Needs”. Just because we have a great left tackle and a servicable right tackle doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take another potentially great tackle. We probably got as good a defensive lineman in Lawrence in the second round as we would have if we had drafted for need and taken a DL from the depleted list still available in the first round. BTW Johnny Manziel was not the best player avaliable, or even the best quarterback avaliable when the Clowns panicked and traded up to take him at #22. He has the pocket passing ability of a 6th rounder, and NFL linebackers are not going to whiff when he tries to outrun them next year.

Did he injure any of his teammates while signing?

The Dallas offensive line should be quite good next season and for years to come. Now the defense? We will see.

As a REDSKINS fan it pains me to admit that Dallas has done a very good job rebuilding their O line with good young talent. With a retooled REDSKINS and Giants offenses and Chips in Philly and Dallas with Romo behind his O line it’s going to be fun to watch the NFC east play the west and their attack Defenses this year. Time for the East to regain their rightful spot as the premier division.
