Ravens looking at more veteran cornerbacks

The Ravens appear to be in the market for some more cornerback help.

Mentioned among the teams showing interest in Brandon Flowers, they’re also taking a look at some other veterans.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens will also bring in cornerbacks Aaron Ross and Drayton Florence for this week’s minicamp, presumably on a tryout basis.

Ross has a connection, having played under Ravens secondary coach Steve Spagnuolo with the Giants. Florence played acceptably well for the Panthers last season, but they replaced him with Antoine Cason this offseason.

UPDATE 2:59 p.m. ET: Add another one to the pile, as veteran cornerback Marquice Cole will also work out for them. He’s bounced around quite a bit, most recently with the Broncos, Patriots and Jets.

  1. just looking for a nickle cb not a #1 they wont over pay.ozzie will find some late in camp as he usally does evey year….

  2. To the subject at hand, Ozzie has a history of finding CBs who were not valued properly by their current teams, yet play well with the Ravens. Cory Graham and Cary Williams are two examples.

Leave it to an oblivious Steeler troll to tout DHB, whom Ravens fans know well from his college playing days at Maryland as fast but unreliable. It will be entertaining to see Steeler fans react when he drops his first pass, assuming he makes the final roster. He’s not AFCN-suitable.

  3. Good strategy – inject some age into an already old and slow defense. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

  4. Ravens needing help at CB isn’t exactly new news. If these vets can hang in mini-camp with the younger guys then sign them and let them compete for a spot on the roster. I’d be really surprised if Flowers is a serious option.

  5. The Ravens also got decent production from Chris Carr and Josh Wilson was another diamond in the rough.

And the Ravens aren’t looking for a front line guy, they already have Webb and Jimmy Smith. They are looking for an upgrade for Nickel or even Dime because right now they have a group of inexperienced guys for those roles. I think the leading guys are Chykie Brown who has played mainly on special teams and has started one game in his entire three year career, and Asa Jackson who is more of a returner than defender.

I think we’re in trouble if those are the guys we have to use in those roles.
