Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata says he’s focusing this season on increasing his sack production. As in, nearly doubling his previous career high.

Ngata, who hhs never had more than 5.5 sacks in a season and had 1.5 sacks last year, said at today’s mandatory minicamp that his goal for 2014 is double-digit sacks.

It’s awfully unlikely that Ngata will manage 10 sacks this season, but rushing the passer has never been the most important part of Ngata’s job in Baltimore’s defense. For the Ravens, the most important thing is that they get a few more good years out of the 30-year-old Ngata. And although talks on a contract extension haven’t amounted to much, he said he’s optimistic that a deal will get done keeping him in Baltimore for several more years.

“I would love to be a Raven for life,” Ngata said.

Ten sacks in a season is probably too much to ask for, but several more good years in Baltimore would be welcome for Ngata and the Ravens.
