Man pleads no contest to charges of stabbing Aldon Smith

AP

49ers linebacker Aldon Smith entered a no contest plea last month to weapons charges stemming from a party at his home in 2012 at which two people were shot.

Smith was also stabbed at that party and the man who did it faces three years in prison after pleading no contest to charges related to the incident last week. Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Charles Gillingham said, via the Associated Press, that Steven Barba entered those pleas on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and being a felon in possession of a gun.

According to Gillingham, Barba stabbed Smith twice as the linebacker was trying to get the crowd to disperse as things got out of hand at the party. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 15.

Smith also pleaded no contest to DUI charges last month and awaits sentencing on both fronts. He also faces likely discipline from the NFL as a result of his repeated run-ins with law enforcement.

  1. He could face a suspension, but seeing that the 49ers are one of Roger Goodell’s favorite teams (and the NFL’s hard on for Jim Harbaugh) I’ll believe it when I see it.

  2. But he never stabbed anybody people…..who deserves to get stabbed when trying to end their own party???? This is actually one of the few responsible things Aldon has done…..

  3. It’s sad to see people with so much talent, and they’ve dedicated their lives to make where they have… just to end up seeing so many of these guys throw it all away

Well seeing as his way of ending this party was him coming out shooting guns in the air, not to sure that’s “responsible”

  5. This kid is such an amazing talent and a great young player. I hope that what ever comes out of the discipline finally gets his head on straight and he can come out of it and continue to be a great player.

  6. Laughed out loud when the story stated ‘the man who did it pleaded not guilty’. Umm……in the U.S. you are innocent till found guilty.

  7. If this Santa Clara 49er isn’t suspended for a year it will be a joke. Weapons charges, DUI, the bomb incident… I think the most ridiculous thing was after he got released from jail following his DUI arrest, Harbaugh actually let’s the guy practice hours after crashing his car into a tree. Amazing!

    Stay classy Santa Clara!
