Texans release quarterback T.J. Yates

Divisional Playoffs - Houston Texans v Baltimore Ravens

True to his word, Texans coach Bill O’Brien got down to three quarterbacks before training camp.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Texans have released T.J. Yates.

That gets them down to the law firm of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum and Tom Savage, which will allow a more equitable division of repetitions in O’Brien’s first training camp as head coach.

Yates played in an emergency role in 2011 when the Texans were good, and he was decidedly OK. But he fell behind Keenum last year, and never made up the ground under a new administration.

Considering the Ravens’ perpetual search for a backup to Joe Flacco, and Gary Kubiak’s new role in Baltimore as offensive coordinator, that’s a possible landing spot.
