The Titans shook up their receiver mix today, adding a journeyman to the group.

According to Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean, the Titans are signing Derek Hagan, and waiving Lamont Bryant.

Hagan’s kicked around the NFL for seven seasons, with the Dolphins, Giants, Raiders and Bills. He was in camp with the Buccaneers last season.

His 129 career receptions might not jump off the page, but the simple act of longevity says something, as he’s continued to find chances.

This guy always makes the team. Good routes, good hands, just not flashy.

    Plus the Bucs bucked him.

He’s just a guy who’s going to catch a few balls in camp; based on his career, nobody’s going to pay him whatever his veteran minimum would be to keep his career going on an active roster. I mean, a seven-year career equates to 112 games, and guys who have averaged about a reception a game through their career don’t tend to stick around all that long at the veteran minimum.

I’m genuinely surprised the Panthers didn’t get to him first.

He is a journeyman for a reason. Skip the non production and give a rookie his spot for the final 53. I can recall serious 3rd down drops beyond the sticks. Yeah, he catches 20 balls a year on average, but all the numbers are not included in that stat either.
