Geno Smith to get 70-75 percent of first-team snaps

Geno Smith AP

When Jets’ training camp begins next month, Geno Smith reportedly will take the bulk of the practice snaps with the first-team offense.

According to offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, Smith will get 70-75 percent of the work with the starters, according to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com.

Given that Smith appears the favorite to win the job, it’s no surprise the second-year passer will get the majority of first-team reps as the Jets try to sharpen their offensive play before the regular season. This will leave Michael Vick, Matt Simms and Tajh Boyd to take what they can get when it comes to starting snaps.

And when camp when begins, the focus will turn to whether Smith will leave no doubt as to who will be the Jets’ starting quarterback.

What’s the issue? In football player terms, 70-75% is less than half.

From 8-8 to a winning season this year. There’s no chance he breaks Peyton’s rookie INT record or that he catches brother Eli.

Funny how Geno gets more scrutiny than Eli, who wasn’t a rookie last year.

I don’t know about more scrutiny than Eli…. people generally don’t seem to respect him much (besides two rings)

And that’s about 70-75% too many.

Well at least he can throw the ball with or without gloves, unlike the Vikes clown.

It will be interesting to see how well GS holds up to the pressure this year now that he has someone with more qualifications than Tebow behind him.

At least their DBs will be getting plenty of practice running with the ball…

Geno is sure to blossom this year into the star QB they drafted.

Surely someone here can say that with a straight face….

Geno, Vick, doesn’t matter. Either one will be running for his life week one against Justin Tuck, LaMarr Woodly and Sio Moore. The Raiders are going to have at least six sacks. Book it.

Funny this is not on the Jets post

Geno needs a 70-75 QB rating.
