ProFootballTalk: Redskins’ name, logo no longer under federal patent

ProFootballTalk: The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has revoked the patent from the Washington Redskins’ logo and name, saying it is disparaging towards Native Americans and thus not protected under federal law. The ruling allows people and organizations not affiliated with the football team to profit from the team’s namesake and logo. Mike Florio breaks down what this ultimately means for the Washington NFL franchise.

This is the new way to get around democracy. All you do is be a judge and overturn things based solely on your own personal views, and then spin it somehow as an interpretation of the constitution.

    Not true.

Only trademarks that contain the word “Redskins” have been unregistered. The logo remains protected under a separate and still registered trademark.

Dan Snyder should NEVER give up the Redskins name. This action by the Govt smells of Dingy Harry Reid and Barack “Community Organizer” Obama.

I believe I honor the term, which was coined by Native Americans themselves. Racists have twisted the term to mean something bad or less than whatever they think they are.

If racists use a word incorrectly and to disparage, that doesn’t mean that we should discard the word or accept their definition. In fact, we should fight to honor the original intent and remove their power altogether.
