Report: Chargers meeting with Brandon Flowers

Could cornerback Brandon Flowers find a soft landing with one of his former club’s division rivals?

Flowers, whom the Chiefs released Friday, will meet with the Chargers on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported.

A six-season starter with Kansas City, the 28-year-old Flowers would step right into a major role if signed by San Diego. Though the Chargers drafted a cornerback (Jason Verrett) in Round One of the 2014 draft, the club is still thin at the position.

The 5-foot-9, 187-pound Flowers has good ball skills, as evidenced by his 91 passes defensed and 17 picks in his pro career. Those traits, as well as his experience, likely make him attractive to the Chargers, who don’t put as much of a premium on size at the position as other clubs do.

Ah yes, Flowers is pulling the ol “stick it to my old team” card, that’s always been one of my favorites.

No please I want him out of the division lol
    Khalil Mack> Clowney and Barr

You must don’t want to win.

    Do it Telesco!

Flowers for Qualcomm! (sorry – kind of a stretch)

    Senior Years:

    100 tackle 19 for loss 10.5 sacks

    66 tackles 20 for loss 10 sacks

Lets see what they do at the next level

Crazy, the second post about the Chargers in the month of June. You guys sure are busting them out.

  12. jjackwagon says: Jun 18, 2014 4:23 PM

So he WANTS to be seen on TV getting burned by the likes of Donnie Avery and Junior Hemingway? Ouch!!

  13. tindeaux says: Jun 18, 2014 4:32 PM

hopefully the chargers will pick him up for real. Chargers’ secondary has been a joke lately.

  14. National Fanatic says: Jun 18, 2014 4:33 PM

If I’m Tom Telesco, here’s my offer: 3 year, $15 million contract, $6 million guaranteed.

  15. whatjusthapped says: Jun 18, 2014 4:53 PM

Sign with the Vikings, they overpay for limited production and when the ball sails over your head for a TD, its not like they haven’t seen that many times before.

  16. sd619tripleog says: Jun 18, 2014 4:53 PM

In Telesco we trust. The league better be worried if this chargers defense can step it up this year. Flowers with some key rushers coming back healthy could be lethal with rivers leading the bolts

  17. chargrz says: Jun 18, 2014 5:33 PM

    Sign Him Already!

  18. natelan says: Jun 18, 2014 5:50 PM

I don’t pretend to understand how salary caps work, but I think we would need to shuffle some money or bodies around to sign him here in San Diego.

That being said, this revelation intrigues and pleases me.

I don’t think there is a team out there that will give Flowers a multi-year contract at this point. Chargers should sign him to a couple of one year contracts with some guaranteed money and let him mentor Verrett.

  20. badmoonrison says: Jun 18, 2014 6:19 PM

His heart for the game is as empty as the Chargers trophy case. Be smarter than Ed Reed and quit before your time, bud.

  21. papajack1259 says: Jun 18, 2014 6:30 PM

He could find a home at the New England Sanctuary for Elders run by mr personality Bill “I smiled once but it hurt” Belichick I think McDaniels drafted him?y/n

  22. chargerdillon says: Jun 18, 2014 7:29 PM

The Charger defensive backfield in a matter of one year could transform from biggest weakness to a strength in one year

    In Tom Telesco I trust!

  23. kando53 says: Jun 18, 2014 7:51 PM

Somewhat surprised his name wasn’t mentioned in conjunction with SD earlier considering how much help they need in the secondary.

  24. vaughnjoe says: Jun 18, 2014 7:53 PM

Tough guy at the position. Sign him San Diego!

  25. socalcharger says: Jun 18, 2014 8:07 PM

Cut clary to free up money, sign flowers. Win-Win!!!

  26. ilametta91 says: Jun 18, 2014 8:09 PM

Don’t know how the topic of Khalil Mack was brought up, but to touch on the comparisons of Mack, Barr, and Clowney…
Mack went to Buffalo. Clowney played in the SEC. Barr in the PAC- 12. Need I say more?

  27. gbmickey says: Jun 18, 2014 8:16 PM

Being that the queens are getting spurned watch for them to get involved by offering crazy money, I have heard they offer bonuses just for free agents like Flowers to visit.

  28. themeccalambeaufield says: Jun 18, 2014 8:59 PM

Hilarious mickey! Considering what they paid the over the hill Jennings and 4 yr backup Griffen Flowers is in line for a 8-10 mil. contract from the queens. God knows that defensive backfield is pathetic.

Chargers name is offensives. Change the name!

  34. afcdomination says: Jun 19, 2014 8:05 AM

flowers is NOT sticking it to his old team. they left on good terms, KC paid him well for a CB who allowed a QB rating over 100 last year, is 5’9 and slowing down. had 1 INT in his “pro bowl” year while giving up that QBR, and it was week 1 vs Jacksonville.

he is coming off a really bad year.

  35. jjackwagon says: Jun 19, 2014 11:06 AM

From the trash can to the sewer.

Keep hatin’ we enjoy your tears. 4th & 48, LOL. That’s one for the history books.

  36. natelan69 says: Jun 24, 2014 11:38 AM

Has there ever been a worse 11-year run for a team than what the Raiders have done recently?

You guys suck worse than the Browns, Lions, Vikings, Jaguars, etc… The Raiders are the joke of the entire NFL.
