Alfonzo Dennard recovering from shoulder surgery

Dennard

While serving time in jail this offseason, Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard presumably didn’t have an unfortunate encounter with a shiv. As it turns out, he was cut by a different kind of knife.

According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, Dennard is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. Dennard hasn’t been seen at offseason workouts, and he’s not expected to be on the practice field until training camp.

Dennard injured his shoulder on December 8 against the Browns. He didn’t miss a game after that.

His status as a starter has become unclear given the arrival of Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner. Still, the 2012 seventh-round draft pick remains a key piece of the team’s defense.

Dennard served 35 days for a violating a probation agreement reached after he was convicted of assaulting a police officer in the days preceding the 2012 draft. The arrest caused a potential second-round prospect to slide to round seven, where the Patriots pounced.
