Jim Kelly visits Bills minicamp, speaks to team

Former Bills quarterback Jim Kelly attended Buffalo’s minicamp practice on Thursday and addressed the team, according to multiple reports on Twitter.

Kelly, who has been fighting a reoccurrence of cancer, reportedly told the Bills they are a “special team” with playoff potential.

“Let’s start playing games in January,” Kelly said, according to the Bills’ Twitter feed.

Kelly also delivered some big picture advice to the club.

“Make this your team, make this special,” Kelly said, according to Mike Rodak of ESPN.com. “When it’s all over, all you have is memories.”

The 54-year-old Kelly played all 11 NFL seasons with Buffalo (1986-1996) and still lives in the area. He was released from the hospital less than two weeks ago after concluding radiation treatment.

Great tough player and class act. You have to wish for some good medical news for this family.

As a kid it was awesome watching Kelly throw bombs to Andre Reed and Don Beebe during the 10:00 am games on the west coast.

I bet Jim Kelly can still play better than the QBs the Bills have now.

Somehow I’m starting to feel like the Bills might just start putting things together and surprising some folks this year. Probably not more than a 1-and-done playoff appearance as a wildcard, but that would still be a lot farther than most expect.
