Chad Johnson catches one pass in CFL preseason debut

chadjohnson AP

Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson has officially put on a Canadian Football League uniform for the first time.

Johnson, the receiver formerly known as Ochocinco who is attempting to revive his career with the Montreal Alouettes, caught a 13-yard pass on the first play from scrimmage in Friday night’s preseason opener.

That was Johnson’s only catch of the game, as he and Alouettes quarterback Troy Smith (the former Ohio State Heisman Trophy winner and Ravens backup) failed to connect on a couple of other passes.

Before the game, Johnson described his anticipation in typical Chad Johnson fashion.

“It’s similar to the feeling before I lost my virginity. There’s a certain level of excitement . . . anticipation . . . not knowing what’s going to happen or what I’m going to get,” Johnson told the Montreal Gazette.

The game was Johnson’s first since appearing in a preseason game for the Dolphins on August 10, 2012. Johnson was arrested the next day on a domestic violence charge and cut by the Dolphins the day after that.

To those knocking Chad for only having one catch; it was a preseason game. I expect they didn’t have him on the field that much given they only threw a “couple” of other passes his way. The fact that he caught the first pass of the game, no doubt with everyone focused on him, bodes well as does the large playing field and open style in the CFL that suits his game. The guy always was in great shape.

I’m sure he will enjoy his time in the CFL, but it will be alot tougher than he probably thinks it will be. There is some solid talent in the CFL.

Keep that playbook simple with a lot of pictures and he’ll do just fine.

Why bash the guy? He is playing the game he loves and getting paid. Everyone bags on Tebow and others for not going to other leagues. Yet when chad does he gets bashed.

Either it’s ok to play on other leagues or it’s not. Can’t see why anyone is bashing a guy for making the most of what’s left in the tank. He obviously loves the game since they pay nothing in the cfl.

This isn’t for just chad but anyone who plays in any other league when they can no longer play in the nfl. And face fact this guy was one of the best WR in the game when he was in his prime with Cincy.
