Report: Cowboys met with Garrett Reynolds

Last year, the Cowboys pursued veteran guard Brian Waters all throughout the offseason and preseason before finally signing him as the regular season was getting underway.

Waters got hurt and wound up on injured reserve and there’s been limited discussion of a comeback after the team drafted Zack Martin in the first round. That doesn’t mean the Cowboys are out of the market for experienced help at the position.

Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that guard Garrett Reynolds visited with the team last week. Reynolds, who was released by the Falcons in February after being benched 10 games into the 2013 season, also visited with the Titans before the draft.

With Martin, Ronald Leary and Mackenzy Bernadeau all on the roster, Reynolds is looking at a reserve role if he lands in Dallas. After being benched by the Falcons, that’s probably going to be the case anywhere he winds up this summer.

Careful cause it will be Romo on the bench due to injury if this guy lets the defense through. If he sucks he sucks. Don’t gamble, no more project players. How about getting us more defensive players Jerry. 🙂

Atlanta had a dumpster fire of a line last year. In particular, the RG spot was one of the worst.

This guy got benched, because he couldn’t hold on to a spot on THAT line. And he was cut…

But Dallas wants to sign him?

Reynolds is awful (I’m a Falcons fan). Amazing that a dude of his size could get shoved around so easily. So glad he’s out of ATL

Seems like Jerry wakes up every day wondering if he can find a player fresh out of a plane wreck.

Just when I was starting to think the offensive line was going to be improved this year Jerry looks like he has so little confidence in it he’s looking at the worst of the worst to add to the mix. Hope Tony has a good life insurance policy.

As far as getting through the preseason goes, the Cowboys brought in a couple undrafted guards so I don’t know what Jerry is thinking here. His typical dumpster diving GM approach.

Reynolds was an OT when drafted out of NC State, but most felt he didn’t have the quickness to play even right tackle, so they shifted him to guard….Problem is that Reynolds is 6’7″ and not real athletic, so defensive linemen are often able to get under his pads and move him around; while there are a few effective tall guards, the position is better suited to shorter guys who can get leverage low on guys and move them out. Reynolds always seemed miscast In this role, and looked even more awful this last season with the center playing next to him (Peter Konz) playing horribly as well….He may look better with better players around him, but I wouldn’t be too optimistic.

Guy show up for a work out Cowboys give it a look. Not like they went out looking for him. They didn’t sign him just a work out. Don’t always find negativity in every thing. Oh, I forgot that’s what you do.

Sigh. Remember when OUR castoffs and second stringers were starters for other teams…

He has to better than Bernadeau. Can’t see a 6’7″ Guard. There looking for Depth at Guard for a cheap price. Sounds like a player Jerry would draft.
