Bears sign veteran safety Adrian Wilson

Adrian Wilson seemed like such a natural fit with the Patriots when he signed a year ago, but he never played a down for them.

Now, the five-time Pro Bowler has a chance to continue his career.

The Bears announced they signed Wilson Monday, along with tight end Jeron Mastrud.

Wilson tore his Achilles in the preseason finale last year, and spent the year on injured reserve. It will be interesting to see if he’s recovered enough to compete for a roster spot.

The Bears aren’t loaded at the position, but Wilson was beginning to look like a situational player before the injury.

  1. No argument that the Bears need to add another legitimate safety (or two) to the roster… but doesn’t this guy have less than zero left in the tank?

  2. Bears finally realize what Packer fans have been telling you since you signed MD Jennings. He isn’t very good. He doesn’t know where he is supposed to be on most plays.

  3. Adrian Wilson was extremely underrated in Arizona. I had the pleasure of living there and watching him during his career there…heck of a player.

I would say good luck…but Lions fans don’t wish Bear’s players good luck!

  4. Glad to see Emery kick the ol’ tires on this guy. Regardless if he makes the team, at least some of the younger Bears can learn a few things from him in training camp.

  5. What thevza said. Even if Wilson doesn’t make the cut, his experience and character will bring value to the locker room.

At worst, the Bears are essentially renting an assistant safeties coach and based on how their safeties played last year, they need as much coaching help as they can get.

No Bears fans I know were remotely excited about the signing of MD Jennings.

The guy’s a scrub and a camp body at best.

I’m sure his knowledge of GB’s defensive calls had nothing to do with the signing

That would be why Brock Vereen has been playing with the 1’s…

It will be between Vereen and Conte for the starting spot. Either one will have a better chance than the Bears safeties last year with a improved and deeper D-line.

  9. This division won’t even be close. By week 11 my Vikings will have run away with it. Better hope the Bears don’t finish behind the loser peckers.

  10. I hope that the Bears cut that tight end so that PFT can run the headline: “Bears Cut the Mustard”

  11. AWilson was a hell of a player, but just can’t run anymore. He wasn’t gonna make the Pats roster last yr, even before his injury. Going the EReed route.

  12. Wilson should be great at stopping the run on running downs. Emery is serious about stopping the run. You can always switch to Vereen for the pass plays.

  13. Vikings: Worst team in the division, but at least their fans have the whole ‘delusional’ thing pretty well-covered.

Another meaningless pick up. Stellar bears front office at its finest.

    0-16 in 2008, 2 seasons above .500 since 2000.

They sweep the Bears and still finish behind them in the division……

    Detroit Lions……….Suck!
