Cecil Shorts: Jaguars feel we’re on the right track

Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts is heading into his fourth NFL season and he’s doing it with a different feeling than he’s had in the previous three seasons.

Shorts said he feels the team is closer to breaking their string of losing seasons after a second offseason with coach Gus Bradley and says that other members of the team share the same feeling about the potential for better days in Jacksonville. It’s the first time that Shorts has felt that kind of optimism since joining the team.

“Never,” Shorts said, via the team’s website. “Never. It’s exciting. I was thinking the same thing, but to hear other guys say it, that we’re ahead of last year … we’re not where we want to be yet, but I think we are on the right track.”

Belief in Bradley’s philosophies is a good thing for the organization, but turning that belief into a winning season or a first playoff trip since 2007 will rely heavily on the talent that Bradley and General Manager Dave Caldwell have brought onto the roster. It looks better in several spots on paper, but we’ll have to wait a few more months to see if the changes are visible on the field as well.
