The Chargers weren’t the only California-based club to show interest in cornerback Brandon Flowers.

According to Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports, Flowers met with the 49ers on Friday.

Ultimately, the 28-year-old Flowers reached a one-year deal with San Diego, where he figures to be a vital part of the Chargers’ secondary. But the Niners’ interest in the 2013 Pro Bowler is notable. The 49ers are perhaps as thin at cornerback as they are at any position, and their visit with Flowers may suggest they are open to adding to their defensive backfield.

Tramaine Brock, Chris Culliver, Chris Cook and Perrish Cox are among the Niners’ veteran options at cornerback, with rookie safety Jimmie Ward expected to have a role covering the slot.
