On Wednesday, the Chargers waived cornerback Brandon Jones to make room for Brandon Flowers.

On Thursday, Jones landed with Flowers’ old club.

The Chiefs announced today they had been awarded Jones on waivers from San Diego. A first-year pro from Rutgers, Jones (6-1, 187) will compete for a reserve role with the Chiefs.

Jones was a collegiate teammate of Chiefs corner Marcus Cooper, who appeared in all 16 games for Kansas City in 2013. As a senior at Rutgers, Jones intercepted five passes.

Jones, 24, spent a stint on the Chargers’ practice squad in 2013. He did not appear in any regular season games.
