Report: Kevin Kolb arrested for drunk boating

Kevin Kolb AP

Former (for now, possibly forever) NFL quarterback Kevin Kolb is back in the news, but not for good reasons.

According to 956Sports.com,Kolb was arrested Saturday in Willacy County, Texas on charges of boating while intoxicated.  Booked at 2:44 a.m. on Sunday morning, he was released nearly 11 hours later.

(It would be eery if Kolb had a brother named Yaqub.)

A second-round pick in 2007, Kolb succeeded Donovan McNabb as the 2010 starter in Philly before a Week One concussion opened the door for Mike Vick to claim the job.  The following year, Kolb was traded to Arizona, promptly signing a big-money deal.  Two years, roughly $20 million and more injuries later, the Cardinals bailed on Kolb.

He signed with the Bills, suffered his latest concussion in the preseason, and eventually was released.

Does this change the “days without an arrest” clicker? Or not because he isn’t signed with anyone?

  2. kegowhisky says: Jun 30, 2014 7:04 PM

Booked at 2:44am means he was probably stopped around 1 am-ish. Would love to know more about the circumstances, but boating at night is tricky enough without adding the booze factor. He’s probably lucky he was stopped before he did damage to himself &/or others!

This would never happen to any player on a classy organization like the historic Minnesota Vikings.

We own the league, in class and greatness.

  4. ramrene says: Jun 30, 2014 7:06 PM

    Here’s a report…

He should have been arrested for drunk quarterback play.

  5. competitivecompetitioncompeter says: Jun 30, 2014 7:09 PM

And thus his slow gradual transformation into Jim Breuer is complete.

Poor guy can’t catch a break got a black cloud following him

  7. beardinals says: Jun 30, 2014 7:10 PM

If there’s anyone that should write out a big fat refund to some teams……

  8. packerbackernj says: Jun 30, 2014 7:11 PM

If this was in Minnesota the boat would be full of drugs, hookers, etc

  9. Stiller43 says: Jun 30, 2014 7:14 PM

    Who boats not drunk?!

Report: Kevin Kolb arrested for drunk boating (unless it was his brother)
-This was the Tweet from Pro football talk.

Funniest tweet of the year so far
    LOL

  11. tjacks7 says: Jun 30, 2014 7:18 PM

I hope the cops didn’t cuff him too right cause they could easily break both wrists and pull a shoulder out of socket. Also, hope there weren’t any non-slip mats around he could have slipped on.

  12. jaughe71 says: Jun 30, 2014 7:20 PM

Are they sure he was drunk? Are they sure he didn’t just put his hat on too hard and gave himself another concussion?

  13. fordmandalay says: Jun 30, 2014 7:33 PM

Bet the scumbag Texas cops couldn’t wait to tweet this story out. Could it actually be Kolb’s brother they arrested? Or someone named Kevin Cobb? Wouldn’t surprise me at this point.

    .
Never has anyone been paid so much, yet produced so little. He should be named As NFLPA businessman oft the decade.

He makes Darrelle Revis look like a non profit organization.

The way he played on the field he probably should’ve been arrested for drunk quarterbacking.

  16. lacarious says: Jun 30, 2014 7:38 PM

    Two years, roughly $20 million

    be smart Kolb… be smart…

  17. ialwayswantedtobeabanker says: Jun 30, 2014 7:40 PM

He should just show some of the footage of him getting his eggs scrambled? Aside from BAC, that might at least explain away any erratic maneuvers behind the captain’s wheel.

  18. theageofquarrel says: Jun 30, 2014 7:41 PM

When did he join the Vikings?

  19. alshonbrandontandem says: Jun 30, 2014 7:43 PM

Seriously, who hasn’t operated a boat drunk?!?!? Every boater on the water could be arrested. You get a pass on this one Kolb.

  20. zenrooster says: Jun 30, 2014 7:47 PM

I think Kevin Kolb should be arrested for playing QB. Drunk boating is just a petty crime in comparison.

  21. f1restarter says: Jun 30, 2014 7:51 PM

Embarrassing issues involving boats must bring back painful memories for Minnesota Vikings fans.

  22. icallbs81 says: Jun 30, 2014 7:51 PM

whoa….whoa…..whoa…… when did being drunk and motor boating become a crime?

Just a reminder that even thought I love to watch college programs that run an AIR RAID offense, the qbs tend not to do a whole lot in the pros.

A certain QB that plays for the Browns might want to take note of how to run his new offense so he isn’t “a former” NFL quarterback.

  23. don2074978 says: Jun 30, 2014 7:56 PM

Kevin Kolb Net Worth = $5,000,000 according to Celebrity net worth

Don’t think he has to worry about his VISA card being declined any time soon

And yes that 5M$ figure sounds low so let’s do some math

    Buffalo Bills = 3M+
    Arizona Cardinals 20M
    Philadelphia eagles 4.285M

    Assuming taxes = 50%

That leaves about 14M which comes out to about 1.3m in expenses per year

  24. coltzfan166 says: Jun 30, 2014 7:59 PM

If you’re boating at midnight, you’re asking for it.

Sadly, the concussions are already hurting Kolb permanently.

  25. minnesotablizzard says: Jun 30, 2014 8:27 PM

Most likely boated to a bar/restaurant that has a dock on the water and got a little too tipsy at the establishment. Probably thought boating home would be 100% safe and he wouldn’t see anyone, water sheriff was probably watching the area for people pulling that very move.

    -Minnesota boaters.

  26. dempsey63 says: Jun 30, 2014 8:29 PM

Bears RB Cedric Benson was arrested for boating while intoxicated in Austin, TX, years ago. Texas authorities obviously are targeting NFL players. It smacks of profiling.

If your out on your boat and not drunk then your really not boating ,, I heard a judge say that before some years back

  29. mancave001 says: Jun 30, 2014 8:33 PM

This guy just cannot catch a break. What is it with him? It’s as another poster commented…like he has a black cloud following him around.

  30. therealraider says: Jun 30, 2014 8:37 PM

It should be a crime not to drink while boating.

  31. surfinbird1 says: Jun 30, 2014 8:45 PM

    Whatever floats your boat.

  32. ghjjf says: Jun 30, 2014 8:52 PM

Did he pull a Bernie Kosar and blame his offensive line?

  33. shaggyo3 says: Jun 30, 2014 8:58 PM

“This would never happen to any player on a classy organization like the historic Minnesota Vikings.”

yes, the Vikings have a much better history on boats, don’t they? lmao!

  34. jamesmfitzpatrick says: Jun 30, 2014 9:31 PM

“Don’t drink and boat, kids” never did roll off the tongue quite as well.

  35. 1bigtex says: Jun 30, 2014 10:30 PM

Uh, 6ball, regarding your “never has someone been paid so much for so little” comment. Obviously, you’ve erased Jamarcus and his $36 million from your memory banks.

  36. youcantmakemepickausername says: Jun 30, 2014 10:35 PM

Maybe he was boating drunk because he was out celebrating all those Super Bowls the Philly sports talks hosts and callers said he was gonna win as the Eagles QB.

  37. nomoreseasontix says: Jun 30, 2014 10:45 PM

Way to get the ol’ career back on track.
In a league with Geno smith and Teddy Bridgewater penciled in as starters, i’d like my chances.
Unless I drove a boat drunk at 2:30 am, that is….

  40. revelation123 says: Jul 1, 2014 1:45 PM

“Drunk boating”? You’ve got to be kidding me. If he didn’t hurt anyone it’s nobody’s business but his own.
