It appears the Bills’ worries about linebacker Kiko Alonso’s knee injury were well-founded.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Alonso is likely to miss the 2014 season after suffering a torn ACL.

Per Schefter, Alonso’s recovery timetable is 7-9 months.

Earlier Tuesday evening, Bills G.M. Doug Whaley announced Alonso, a second-year pro, had suffered a possibly “significant” knee injury in a workout.

One of the Bills’ top defensive players, Alonso was slated to play outside linebacker this season. Nigel Bradham and Preston Brown could be among the internal candidates to fill in for Alonso, who finished third in the NFL in tackles in 2013, notching 159 stops.
