RG3: Alfred Morris is our biggest offensive weapon

Alfred Morris AP

Quarterback Robert Griffin III has drawn more attention than anyone on Washington’s roster since the Redskins made him the second overall pick of the 2012 draft and nothing really changed on that front this offseason.

Whether it was the impact of the coaching changes or the move to sign DeSean Jackson, much of what the Redskins have done has been viewed through the prism of what it means for Griffin. There’s more to the Redskins than just the quarterback, however, and Griffin thinks that people have been paying too little attention to what running back Alfred Morris can do when they discuss the biggest weapon on offense.

“I think everyone would lean towards DeSean or Pierre [Garçon] or Jordan Reed,” Griffin said, via the team’s website. “I think it’s Alfred. With him, defenses have to make a decision whether to puts guys in the box to stop him or leave the box light and allow Alfred to go between the tackles and lure in the safeties. I think it will be interesting to see what defenses do against him.”

Whichever choice defenses make against the Redskins this year, the offense seems better prepared to find a mismatch to exploit. Andre Roberts has also joined the receiving corps, giving Jay Gruden plenty of ways to attack opponents who may find themselves stretched too thin this fall.

If your biggest offensive weapon in a passing league is your running back….oh boy.

Morris is very underrated in the NFL. He has consistently put up good numbers and is very hard to bring down. He was a steal when they drafted him and has been productive in their system.

RB are the great equalizers in an Offense whether they’re running or catching they are the key to a successful Offense… All the great Superbowl offenses had a Running back who dominated as a runner or catching out the back field…So all that to say agreed…Indeed…

I think it’s a tie between RGlll and Dan Snyder for who’s most offensive.

Wow … Remember 2012 when RGIII used to come off as humble? … Reminds me of that. Here’s hoping it’s genuine.

DeSean is going to be pouting over that comment!

“Alfred Morris is our biggest offensive weapon”, thanks for clearing that up Cpt Obvious.

  9. reesesteel23 says: Jul 11, 2014 10:22 AM

He’s not underrated. He’s just still up and coming. He’ll get there.

  10. vablockaderunner says: Jul 11, 2014 10:34 AM

In two years, he’s got 2,800 yards and 20 TDs.

I don’t consider him an “elite” back, but objectively speaking, that is Hall of Fame-level production.

Interesting to see how Gruden uses him, because he was criticized in Cincy for getting away from the run too early and often.

Hard-working, nice dude who keeps his head low to the ground and does nothing but rack up yards and TDs. There will literally be four dudes on this guy’s back and he’ll push forward for an extra 3 or 4 yards multiple times a game. A complete workhorse, and maybe my favorite Redskin.

Oh no. DeSean is considering holding out of camp now. His feelings are hurt.

says the guy whose biggest weapon on that choke team is FRANK GORE!!!

    SMH!!!

  14. skinsfaninphilly says: Jul 11, 2014 11:07 AM

So saying SOMEONE ELSE is the biggest offensive weapon when you play offense is no longer being humble? It’s Friday dude..save the hate for after the weekend..sheesh smh

  15. realdealsteel says: Jul 11, 2014 11:08 AM

Frank Gore isn’t even the best runningback on his team anymore. That honor belongs to Carlos Hyde.

  16. Matthew Flint says: Jul 11, 2014 11:19 AM

Honestly, as an Eagles fan I have loved how selfish RGIII has seemed the past year and a half. This comment scares me a little, because it leads me to believe that Griffin actually is starting to get it. That could cause problems for other teams instead of his own. Hope not though.

Yeah, the Seahawks’ best offensive weapon last year was Marshawn Lynch and oh boy did they ever have a terrible season.

Comparing the 3-13 R-words with the champs … that’s some funny stuff. LOL

  20. dcstinks says: Jul 11, 2014 11:59 AM

What does Cris Carter and MeSean JaCKson think of that??

  21. politicallyincorrect says: Jul 11, 2014 12:05 PM

damn.. Redskins have so many offensive weapons

RG3, Morris, DJax, Garcon, Reed, Roberts, Seastrunck…..

RG3 still the key to it all

  22. politicallyincorrect says: Jul 11, 2014 12:10 PM

and for Seahawk fans.. remember, Redskins were better than you 2 yrs ago (skins laughing at you until RG3 hurt)… enjoy your SB but don’t be fooled, you are mostly just good because of not having to pay your stars and drafting well and this will not last………. and, don’t for one moment confuse Wilson as equal to RG3, they are not close in potential

  23. channer81 says: Jul 11, 2014 12:14 PM

In 2013 the media, fans, haters were all focused on Bob, defensive coordinators were focused on Alfred Morris and it showed. They more times than not took him out of games early, got big leads and let Bob pad his stats later. But Fred will never get the attention he deserves playing second fiddle to Bob., but I’m pretty sure he’s cool with that, for now. Wait till contract time.

    FAIL.

Not comparing the two teams….just addressing the issue of whether it is a bad sign if a RB is your best offensive weapon.

Ill have what he is smoking.

Please, this team is a train wreck waiting to happen. Too many egos and too many cry babies. Wait until MeSean and Alfred want more money or not getting the ball enough.
Its going to be mind blowing and I cant wait for it to happen!

The biggest offensive threat is their name.

  27. gocaps8 says: Jul 11, 2014 1:02 PM

The key will be o-line play. If RG3 has time, the play action will be lethal this season.

  28. brudog says: Jul 11, 2014 1:05 PM

Please RG3…..Just Stop Talking already. You are really starting to run off Redskins fans now.

  29. billgramatica says: Jul 11, 2014 2:39 PM

Cue up the next article where Jackson is whining that he’s the biggest offensive weapon… and then he’ll probably throw up gang signs and deny that he’s ever done it, again.

  30. skinsfan91 says: Jul 11, 2014 2:42 PM

RGIII has always been humble. You guys just buy the media narrative and engage in group think. “That guy says RGIII isn’t humble. He’s not humble! Everybody, he’s not humble!” And so fourth.

It never ceases to amaze me as to the level of ignorance that can be displayed and off handed comments that are irrelevant to the topical discussion at hand.

All the haters of the Washington Football Redskins need to do what I do when I don’t like something:

    Don’t listen and don’t respond.

We true fans already think that you are a bunch of idiots and all you do is confirm that fact with your idiotic responses.

Your problem is that you are too stupid to know that you are stupid so as we try to enjoy our team and the players views, we are forced to see your idiotic comments.

Why would it bother you that the man expressed the fact that his running back would be the biggest offensive weapon?

Philly, Dallas, San Francisco, Denver, Pittsburgh, Seattle, Kansas City and Washington in the past just to name a few have all use their running backs in their passing game as well as big ground gainers.

He didn’t say that Alfred would catch the most passes, he said he would be the biggest offensive weapon.

You haters are too STUPID to understand so do us all a favor don’t allow your ignorance to make you look even worse with another stupid response!

  35. dcstinks says: Jul 12, 2014 6:15 PM

You are stupid to respond to the “stupid” people.
