Charles Woodson: We expect big things from Matt Schaub

After the Texans benched Matt Schaub amid a flurry of interceptions last season, there weren’t many people who would have predicted big things from him in the 2014 season.

It is still hard to find a lot of folks betting on a bounceback season, but Schaub has believers in Oakland after the Raiders traded for him this offseason. Safety Charles Woodson said that Schaub is a player that “knows how to get better” and that the Raiders “expect big things” from a player whose status as an NFL starter wasn’t in doubt at this time last year.

“I think every man on the team is counting on him being the guy,” Woodson said on Sirius XM NFL Radio. “You know, you bring him over from Houston, and it’s been duly noted about the struggles that he had last year. But you can’t discount the year that he had before last year so we’re looking at last year as being an anomaly and that not being the true Matt Schaub.”

In 2012, Schaub completed 64.3 percent of his passes while throwing for 4,008 yards and 22 touchdowns. Anything close to that would make plenty of people outside of Oakland believe that Schaub was written off a bit too early. If the other veterans who joined the Raiders this offseason have a similar resurgence, Oakland might wind up winning more games than many are predicting.
