Two Roc Nation execs will take the NFLPA exam

JayZ

The sports agency owned by Jay Z currently has one in-house NFLPA-certified agent. That number could soon be trebled/tripled/whatever.

According to Liz Mullen of SportsBusiness Journal, Roc Nation Sports president Juan Perez and Roc Nation Sports vice president Rick Kleiman will take the annual NFLPA certification test later this month.

The fact that they’re taking the test presumably means they satisfy the educational requirements to represent NFL players in their contract negotiations. Jay Z doesn’t, and he has shown no inclination since becoming a sports agent to obtain NFLPA certification.

Technically, Jay Z and other employees without NFLPA certfication can have only limited involvement in the efforts of Roc Nation Sports to recruit NFL players to choose Roc Nation for the purposes of negotiating with NFL teams. Last year, Jay Z seemed to make a mockery of that provision in connection with the recruitment of Jets quarterback Geno Smith to sign with Kim Miale, who had been hired by Roc Nation Sports to negotiate NFL player contracts. The NFLPA ultimately concluded that no rules were broken.
