Report: Long-term deal for Greg Hardy unlikely before deadline

The deadline to sign players under the franchise tag to long-term extensions is fast approaching on Tuesday.

However, Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy may still find himself waiting for a new deal until next offseason. According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, Hardy is unlikely to receive a long-term extension with the Panthers prior to Tuesday’s deadline.

Hardy has racked up 26 sacks over the last two seasons with a career-high 15 coming last year for the Panthers. He was slapped with the franchise tag by the Panthers and quickly signed the tender to lock him into a $13.1 million deal for this season.

However, Hardy was also arrested in May for a domestic violence incident with his girlfriend in Charlotte. His day in court to face charges of assaulting his girlfriend is also set for Tuesday.

If a deal is not struck before the deadline, Hardy will be unable to sign a long-term extension until next offseason.
