Steelers still land in top half of PFT Preseason Power Rankings

Yes, the Steelers have missed the playoffs for two straight years.  But they’ve finished seventh in the conference each of the past two seasons, which likely will soon be good enough to make it to the postseason.

The Steelers may not need an expanded bracket to make it this year.  With a long-overdue youth movement on defense, a franchise quarterback with gas in the tank, a dynamic depth chart at tailback, and a knack for drafting quality wideouts, the Steelers could be ready to snap out of their funk.

That potential has placed them in the top half of the PFT Preseason Power Rankings, at No. 15.  Let us know whether we were too high, too low, or nailed it below.

  1. Well, Baltimore fans, here is your chance to spew bile to pay back the Yinzer trolls for all the hate on the criminal charge threads (take your pick which ones).

  2. I see what you did there, you said tailback instead of running back, that’s some shrewd agent talk since running back is a broader term that implies more blocking. Now are any of them also feature backs deserving of double dip greenbacks?

  3. FACT: The pharmacist who supplied federally indicted pittsburgh steelers team doctor dr. richard rydze anabolic steroids and human growth hormone got 2 years in federal prison

The pittsburgh steelers have been a non-factor since their team doctor was investigated and indicted by federal authorities.

    ENJOY THE FACTS.

  4. .
The Steelers front seven on both sides of the ball have been retooled and need to demonstrate their value. The same could be said for the “dynamic depth chart” at running back. Show me.

I have not a clue as to what they’re doing with the secondary. Brady put up 55 points on them last year and I see little indication that they’ve improved.
    .

  5. FACT. the Cincinnati Bengals have been relevant….never. dear Lord why I am defending the Steelers. it’s because clown like the Good Dr are just that annoying. I can’t stand the Steelers. but at least they have accomplished something.

  6. I’m not buying…I think they are ranked too high.

However, they do have a great head coach who does one hell of a job motivating his guys and I think Shazier will be DROY in a landslide.

I think they finish 3rd in this division.

  7. … and… their head coach plays tremendous special teams (when his slow, aging, undisciplined team can’t manage).

    ENJOY.

  8. Average to below average in almost every asset besides coaching. Why are they high again? My Vikings even beat them? Is anyone scared of the Steelers the last few seasons? I am probably just hating because PFT ranked the Vikes #27 #Toolow!

  9. … and… their head coach plays tremendous special teams (when his slow, aging, undisciplined team can’t manage).

    ENJOY.

Stop! You are an embarrassment to the “good” fans of the Bengals. Dude change your material to be somewhat credible as the Steelers are no longer old and slow. And finally win a playoff game skippy…then your team may be relevant outside of Bungal land.

  10. Killerstiller, it’s not about staight math when it comes to the NFL, you see being rank 15th makes you a playoff contender (not average). It is funny that a steeler fan understands Math though! You see if you subtract the 12 playoff spots, that leaves… never mind I thinks this is to complicated for you, but ok your average even with straight math!

  11. Way to high in my opinion. This team is on the rack track in my opinion, there re going to be a lot of growing pains with a young team, and I expect a lot for a couple of years. My prediction for AFC North right now is Bengals 11-5 in 1st place, Ravens 9-7 in 2nd place(AFC Wildcard), Steelers 7-9 in 3rd place, Browns 6-10 in 4th place.

When condescendingly correcting some one be sure everything you type is correct their skippy. To should be too or is that too complicated for you to grasp?

  13. I think all Steeler fans recognize by now what a terrible offense Todd Haley runs. His scatterbrained concepts do nothing to help a still very effective Big Ben. The o-line is very questionable, and the skill positions are thin.

Whats more alarming is the condition of the defense. What was once the strength of the team is now a liability. The secondary is just a mess, and retaining Ike Taylor is a farce.

I see them finishing considerably worse than last seasons disappointing showing.

  15. Steelers should be higher. They had a ton of injuries last year. They finished 6-2 in the last 8 games.

The OL was in shambles and now they get Pouncey back and Munchak is the best OL coach in the game. Bell quietly had a very good rookie year and so did Big Ben.

Shazier and Tuitt are huge rookie additions to the defense. Polamalu was forced to essentially play ILB much of last year due to injury and Ryan Clark was awful.

Mike Mitchell is the same kind of player Clark was when the steelers grabbed him a few years ago.

Shazier will be an impact player

It will be steelers and Bengals for the division. Ben is a big advantage over Dalton.

  16. Steelers are perennially overrated by the media. The team plane could go down with no survivors and they would still be ranked in the top half.

  17. Commas and punctuation are also a must!

Just checking if you are a troll or a challenged troll….I guess a little bit of both as your knowledge of the Steelers was obtained from tea leaves and enhanced with hate.

  18. Nofoolnodrool,
I think slick50s just dismissed you from school, to funny…fool and drool in your name…really?

Fool and drool are traits of trolls like you. Pretty simple for you skippy. Also mind your own business and saying you think is a very big lie and you know your momma didn’t raise you to lie…ssshh adults at play.

  19. If I were a Raven or Bengals fan, I’d be upset about the schedule. You all were screwed.

Pittsburgh gets a home date with the saints and colts, while you guys have to go on the road for both of them.

That alone could be what decides the division. The Saints are unbelievable at home, but beatable on the road.

The Bengals also have @NE and Denver, while the Steelers have @ Jets and Chiefs. Big difference.

Words often used when you’ve been embarrassed are- troll(s) and skippy. “saying you think is a very big lie” I heard my 5 year old say that once, it was cute. Oh and the classic “ssshh adults at play” very deep. I’ll leave you alone now, so can think of some more classic comebacks. Next up Tinfoil hat and basement comment…

  21. The Steelers have a lot of young unproven players and an aging QB that is on the downside of his career. They will be lucky to be third in their division as the Browns have vastly improved.

  22. They are overrated in my opinion. Still too many questions on defense, WR, OL, and a beaten up QB. I see them closer to 20 than a 15 ranking. They have a strong division as well with Cinci, Balt, and an improving Cleveland team

Thanks for the analysis….oops sorry I just passed gas laughing at your attempt at an intellectual comment.

  24. The Steelers are on the decline and therefore ranked way too high, but they’ll always beat the Bungals in an important game.

    Always.

  25. The lower they’re ranked, the better. Every time expectations are high for this team they step on their own Cheneys, if you know what I mean. I expect them to do well simply because the “experts” don’t.
Oh, and stop with the spelling troll exchanges. You guys are embarassing yourselves.

  28. Oh, and stop with the spelling troll exchanges. You guys are embarassing yourselves.

Your qualifications to judge are highly suspect and my punctuation / grammar is intended to piss off you anally correct and PC loving jerks. The laugh is on you and ydusuck… The classic child in mans clothing

  29. Comments on this were very funny. Almost nothing about the Steelers except for one particularly annoying Steeler fan getting spanked.

Power rankings at this point having interesting in depth analysis but the actual rankings mean nothing. Go look at anyone’s last years rankings, half were way off.

  30. When condescendingly correcting some one be sure everything you type is correct their skippy. To should be too or is that too complicated for you to grasp?

LOL…”their” instead of “there”. Being butt hurt really gets to you, I guess.

So…you intentionally used bad grammar and punctuation, while trying to make fun of another person’s post because of their poor punctuation and grammar………ya that sounds reasonable.

And, by the way, that’s “classic child in man’s clothing.”

An apostrophe can make all the difference…Take a deep breath Skippy, this is a football forum, not an English class.

It would be great if you knew something about football but you don’t . But thanks for correcting my mistake while telling me it’s about football…did you forget that quick skippy? Oh why am I even addressing some called suck?

  33. Ziggy Hood? is that all you got?

You know that you are a good organization when all opposing fans can do is mock a mediocre player (who still got a 2nd contract from another team) that was drafted with pick #32 5 drafts ago.

I’m looking forward to hearing about how the Steelers will botch the #32 pick in next years draft too…you know, after they win it all again.

  34. Definitely too low. Steelers have re-tooled nicely 3 years removed from a SB appearance.

Ben has 3 SB appearances, 2 wins. That alone is worth a bump in the ranks compared to teams with non-clutch QB’s, many of whose teams you have inexplicably ranked higher (see Ice Ryan and Meltdown Dalton to only name a couple. Foles…let’s see how he does Year #2).

Steelers are Top 12 right now and will be higher by season’s end.

Fact..you’re an idiot. Despite an 0-4 start, they were a missed field goal from being in the playoffs.

Fact, you really need to get out of the basement more often.
