Attorney for Pounceys vows action If alleged assault victim “continues to perpetuate these lies”

Maurkice Pounce, Mike Munchak AP

Evidence in the aftermath of a party at a nightclub reportedly showed no signs that Mike or Maurkice Pouncey assaulted Riquan James, but that isn’t stopping James from planning a lawsuit against the brothers for injuries he allegedly received as a result of an assault at the club.

James also alleges that the brothers fired homophobic taunts in his direction, but the attorney for the brothers offered a strong denial of all the charges to the Miami Herald on Tuesday night.

“Mike and Maurkice were not involved in any altercation with the accuser or anyone else that night and did nothing wrong,” Jeff Ostrow wrote in the statement to the paper. “It appears that the accuser is an opportunist seeking attention and possible financial gain. Any attempt by the accuser or anyone else to bring an action against them based upon these false allegations will be vigorously defended. If the accuser continues to perpetuate these lies, we will bring an action against him.”

While James and two others involved in the lawsuit have spoken to the media about the incident and their plans for litigation, but they have yet to speak to the Miami Beach Police Department. Police spokesman Sgt. Bobby Hernandez says the department has been “anxiously awaiting” a conversation since the allegations were made on Saturday night.

The Pouncey’s aren’t very likeable, but it’s pretty clear that this is a money grab.

Well, I guess if you’re gonna be a gold digger, dig at the guys with the most gold. I saw an interview with Chevy Chase once where the interviewer asked him what his advice would be for people who wanted to be rich and famous. Chase replied that famous was incredibly overrated, and if you can be happy with just being rich, stop there. I kinda see what he means now.

If you’re assaulted, you go to the police. If you weren’t and you are just in it for money, you conveniently don’t go to the police (where investigation would prove you a liar) and instead start trying to smear folks via the media and then a lawsuit.

    What a tool.

If this is a money grab, the law needs to hold people making false allegations more accountable. If you falsely accuse someone of a serious crime, you should do hard time for that. Just ask the Duke Lacrosse players or that football player from USC who did time wrongfully for rape (sorry, can’t remember his name at the moment).

  12. purpleguy says: Jul 16, 2014 11:58 AM

I don’t see how the guy has sustained any real damages worthy of a lawsuit even if they did bonk him a couple times.

  13. smalltime2 says: Jul 16, 2014 12:26 PM

The best defense is to go on the offense, especially if you have money. If they are as bad as some say then they will have their day and posters will have their day to bash them.

Blame creative Attorneys for the desire of Riquan James and perhaps his unemployment for these accusations……..

  17. thehaljordanproject says: Jul 16, 2014 1:17 PM

Mike is the best center in the NFL and Maurkice isn’t far behind. They have had their names drug through the mud because the supported a friend, and are on the verge if huge paydays ( mike anyway maurkice may have done his already, not sure. ) I can see why they are being targeted but all you talking trash need to close your mouths and open your minds.

  18. handsofsteelhartofstone says: Jul 16, 2014 1:39 PM

The Hal Jordan project has it wrong. Maurkice is the best center in the league. Mike is not CLOSE behind.

So it looks like the guy went right from the club to a lawyers office, like this guy is credible. If he had a police investigation to back him up he would get paid but since he is unwilling to go to the police, where if he lies and makes false claims, he could go to jail. This is a classic money grab, not saying the Pouncey’s are good guys but this guy is a scammer.

I wonder if it will help if they wear their “Free Hernandez” hats when meeting with Sgt. Bobby?

    @fin72
“Sgt. Bobby” is anxiously awaiting conversation with ‘Riq James and the crew… not the pounceys…

Miamisam hit it on the head though, this guy will delay that conversation as long as he can before it all blows up in his face. False claims on instagram are one thing. Can’t pull the same stunt with the authorities.

  24. jackshovelpassgardner says: Jul 16, 2014 3:55 PM

Has anyone taken the time to read the initial report the “victims” gave the police on the night in question? They told the officers on the scene that it was one person that pushed and then hit them as he was leaving the club. Please also note it was a person they could not identify, per their statement. Now it’s 4 bouncers and 2 Pounceys. They’re not going in to give statements because they can be charged with filing a false report if they do. They’re going to try to drag it out as long as possible in the hopes the Pounceys will pay them something. I hope the Pounceys sue them for libel, and keep filing motions until they can’t afford to be “socialites”.

  25. thelastpieceofcheese says: Jul 16, 2014 4:09 PM

Typical mud-slinging at the Pounceys with nothing sticking.

  26. corvetteman6 says: Jul 16, 2014 7:07 PM

I like to laugh at the Ravens because, well, there is so much to laugh about there. But let’s face it, Steelers fans, Pouncey is a great center, but the guy has zero character.

  27. laxer37 says: Jul 16, 2014 11:46 PM

Regardless of what may or may not have happened, the Pouncy’s need to grow the hell up. They’re two of the top centers in the league but neither seem to get it.

  28. countmahdrof says: Jul 17, 2014 7:48 AM

“Pouncey is a great center, but the guy has zero character”

We call that the Ray Lewis syndrome.
