Lions add tailback George Winn

George Winn AP

The Lions have signed tailback George Winn, who had stints with several NFL teams in 2013. The club announced the move on Twitter on Wednesday.

A second-year pro, the 23-year-old Winn played collegiately at Cincinnati. He originally signed with Houston as an undrafted free agent in May 2013. After the Texans parted ways with Winn, he signed with the Patriots in June and played for the club through the end of August. He would later have practice squad stints with the Raiders (October 2013), Steelers (October 2013-November 2013) and Cowboys (December 2013).

The 5-11, 210-pound Winn rushed for 1,334 yards and 13 touchdowns in his senior season with the Bearcats. He appeared in three preseason games for New England, rushing for 52 yards and a TD on 15 carries.

In a corresponding roster move, the Lions waived rookie offensive guard D.J. Morrell, an undrafted free agent from Old Dominion.

Camp fodder most likely, but just like Jim Carey in Dumb and Dumber “you’re saying there’s a chance!”

Sad thing is he probably knows he won’t be kept, but still hopes someone will notice him, that he gets enough reps to maybe turn some heads. Worst case he’ll make the league minimum for about a month. Good luck to him either way.

He sure didn’t get to stick around for very long with any of those 5 other teams, would be curious to know the stories there and why the Lions think he can beat out others for a roster spot. Or maybe this is the year we finally figure out that you can do trades in this game and we ship out a few RBs later on.

But if any RB off the street is going to beat the odds when everybody else says it’s not possible, then my money is on Robert Godhigh. That would get me excited, I would love to see somebody give him a shot and some playing time this preseason. He had 3 surgeries last year and still put up a 10.1 rushing average during the regular season, and 20 yards per catch. All he knows how to do is gash for yards using his freakish size and ability, plus he can block.

But let’s give Winn a 6th team to add to his resume first, for why though, what’s with the viral appeal going on with this particular player?

So happy about this addition, this guy is way better than Bush. Our Lions will roll through the NFC North and win the Superbowl with this guy!

    Go Lions!

He probably is training camp fodder, but then, look at Joique Bell’s career before he came to the Lions.

Viking need to add a whole new team, they shoulda just took the entire draft class this year. Maybe they would squeeze out 5 wins total

One more reason Winn is camp fodder: Theo Riddick. Get used to that name, because Riddick is going to come out of nowhere and be a stud this year (unless he gets injured!)

Lions should hold on to him! They have arguably the worst #1 and #2 WR in football. Worst D-line/front 7 in football. Aging safeties/corners who cant cover anyone, a QB that is on decline. At least they would have a winn on that piece of trash team. 0-16

Funny the Vikings guy commenting we should add a QB! Lmao! Have you watched a Vikings game since Dante left?

8.82yds per carry! 2nd all time ACC! But whose checking! ;) =Robert Godhigh!

    Looking for another Bell.

I’ll reserve judgement as Joique Bell was just “camp fodder” & he turned out to be a full-on beast

You have got to be the stupidest comment or of all time! Arguably the Worst 1 n 2 WRs. Megatron alone is better than most combined 1&2′s n league. Your Saints don’t even have a 1!! Worst DLine ? Haha! You should just never type again. You lost you talking privileges! Please never breed!
