Most people who weigh 340 pounds are not in good shape. Haloti Ngata is not most people.

Ngata, the Ravens’ enormous defensive tackle, has posted some video of his offseason workout program, and it’s an impressive display.

The Ravens’ website has the videos, including one that shows Ngata doing an exercise known as a “get up.” The get up involves lying down on the ground while holding a dumbbell over the body with the elbow locked out, and standing up. For the average person, doing that with a 20-pound dumbbell is a challenge. Ngata does it with a 150-pound dumbbell.

The second video is simpler but even more impressive: It’s just Ngata dunking a basketball. Lots of 6-foot-4 guys can dunk, but most of those 6-foot-4 guys are 100 pounds or so lighter than Ngata.

Ngata and the Ravens have had some talks about a long-term contract extension, and the 30-year-old Ngata is showing that he’s taking care of his body well enough that he should be able to keep playing for several more years.
