Aldon Smith sentencing hearing happens today

Smith

In the legal system, delays happen almost all the time. Rarely do things occur more quickly than scheduled.

Things will happen more quickly than scheduled for 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith. His sentencing hearing has been moved from Friday, July 25 to Friday, July 18.

Via Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group, Smith will receive the good news or bad news or good news/bad news at 4:30 p.m. ET.

In May, Smith pleaded no contest to a trio of felony weapons charges and a misdemeanor count of DUI. Even if he avoids jail time, the NFL undoubtedly will take action, most likely suspending him under the personal conduct policy for one or more games to start the season.

The expedited sentencing process gives the league more time to reach a conclusion before Week One. The decision will be influenced in part by the sentence that Smith receives.
