49ers place Ian Williams on PUP list

Ian Williams AP

The 49ers put nose tackle Ian Williams on the active/physically unable to perform list on Friday, the club said.

The 24-year-old Williams suffered a broken left leg in the 49ers’ September 15 loss at Seattle. He has since had four surgical procedures on his injured leg. The injury occurred on a low block and was suffered in Williams’ first career start.

A Notre Dame product, Williams is entering his fourth season with San Francisco, with whom he signed as an undrafted free agent in 2011. He has appeared in six regular season games for San Francisco.

By placing Williams on PUP now, the 49ers have the option to keep him on the list once the regular season begins. However, this would necessitate Williams missing at least six games. He can be removed from PUP at any time before the 53-player roster is finalized at the end of the preseason.

I hate when young players have injuries like this. 4 surgeries since the injury isn’t good.

I hope he here healthy enough to contribute this year

Suffered on a low block by a Seattle player. Seattle cheats with low blocks and PEDs. I can’t wait for the Niners to meet up with those low-lifes.

    Best of luck young man.

Hopefully you can move to another team and remove yourself from the cloud of Whiner karma.

Dirty block by a dirty player playing for a dirty organization.

His leg was broken on a cut block when Sleazy got on the ground and rolled with the intention of hurting someone, that move is now illegal but wasn’t at the time.

Yup. We niner fans are all mind readers. Just like every Seattle fan has become a legal expert when it comes to Aldon Smith’s sentence.

Four surgeries and it’s still not right? That’s not good. I don’t like the Niners but I wish this kid the best.

Ian showed tons of promise. he looked to be the best nt since abrayo Franklin. We’ll see if he can get back into form..

Glen Dorsey has proved why he was worth a 1st round grade…guy has been a stud for us..

  11. goldrush36 says: Jul 19, 2014 2:08 PM

Williams had originally beaten out Dorsey for the starting job and had shown great promise in his time on the field. Fortunately Dorsey came on strong when he came in in relief but this does not sound good. Get well Ian

A low block isn’t the same as an illegal block. Otherwise, I’m sure PFT would have reported that it was flagged. And since many of you don’t know football that well, you should know that Bill Walsh and his 49ers created “chop blocks” in the 80′s and still employ that technique today.

Williams isn’t crying about what was a legal block at the time. Leave it to the norcal sissies to whine about it.

  21. juliusanonymous says: Jul 19, 2014 8:30 PM

I love how Whiner fans are all over the internet wishing for Richard Sherman and other Seahawks to be seriously injured, and yet are the first out here complaining about “cheating” when one of their own is injured playing against us.

The Seahawks suffered injuries as well, losers. But we played through them. Your dirty defense tried to injure Russell Wilson, hitting him late and driving him shoulder-first into the turf, but you don’t hear Seahawks fans crying.

That’s ‘cuz we got the Lombardi and now we’re too busy enjoying the champagne to worry about these losers in San Jose.

  22. norcalmafia says: Jul 19, 2014 8:50 PM

All we have to do is win 1 superbowl and Santa Clara will have as much sports history as the city of Seattle…bwhahah..what a sorry sports town

I don’t understand why there are more hawks fans on here than anyone talking about Santa Clara this and Superbowl champ that I think highly of the Seahawks with the exception of Richard Sherman but the 12 man get no respect I’ve been in the Puget sound since 96 and Seahawks got no love out here till 3yrs ago even during the first Superbowl run you were so shocked to be there you didn’t have time to bandwagon up like now just shut your mouths you know I speak the truth and it hurts

  28. jerryb2339 says: Jul 21, 2014 1:46 PM

Seriously, the 12th man is a HUGE joke (unknowledgeable fans senselessly yelling into little tiny megaphones just to make noise – which most NFL teams ignore after the first two minutes). Bush league is the phrase that quickly comes to mind when thinking about Seahawk fans. ONE super bowl and you would think they invented the game of professional football (and, of course, they were one play away from not going to the Super Bowl). Good team (not one that walks on water, however) – ridiculous fans.

Oh yes….and teaching DBs to hold on every play (only a percentage gets called, so it’s not a bad idea in Carroll’s mindset). Whatever does it for you.
