Report: Patriots reach deal with TE Nate Byham

The Patriots are reportedly set to add a veteran tight end in advance of training camp.

The club has reached a deal with Nate Byham, who’s played the last two seasons with Tampa Bay. He reportedly worked out for New England in May.

The 26-year-old Byham caught three passes for 38 yards in four games for the Buccaneers in 2013. He was placed on injured reserve in October after sustaining calf and knee injuries.

Byham began his career with the 49ers, who selected him in Round Six in 2010. He signed with Tampa Bay in October 2012.

Byham’s addition would give the Patriots six tight ends. The Pats’ top tight end, Rob Gronkowski, could be in for a light workload this summer as he makes his way back from a torn ACL suffered last December.

I wish Nate Byham the best of luck…but I think he’s just insurance for the Pats’ roster. The Bucs have not really had a stand0ut TE in years, and Nate just kind of “was there” last year. He got injured early and Tim Wright, an undrafted free agent, already beat him out for the top spot anyway. The Bucs didn’t need Nate this year because of bringing in a very good free agent TE and drafting a scary-good one last May. Clearly Gronk is the #1, but Nate could nail down #2 or #3 and be helpful on special teams. Good guy I think who deserves a chance.

Another TE that last played in Florida. Hmmmm, hope it works out better than the last TE they picked up out of Florida.

Find the picture hilarious. Nate Byham, who caught three passes total for the Bucs in two years, getting a congratulatory hug from Josh Freeman, who went from “next big thing” to “flaming train wreck not even in the league” in about a year’s time.

Without Brady– still the best QB in the game– this team is the absolute thinnest in the league.

Just another body. C’mon Bill offer Arizona a late rounder for Rob Houser. He doesn’t fit their system and is down on their depth chart. I think the kid would flourish with the Pats. Hurry up. Other teams ( Giants,Jets,Ravens ) are sniffin around him.

    I think this could’ve been a “one-liner”.
