Bengals have crowded house on PUP, NFI

Maybe it would have been easier for the Bengals to list the players they haven’t put on the Physically Unable to Perform or Non-Football Injury lists.

As the team that has gone to the playoffs three straight times prepares to defend its AFC North crown, the Bengals will not have the services of 12 players who have been placed on the PUP or NFI list.

On PUP, which means they can’t pass a physical because of a past football injury while in the NFL, are defensive tackle Geno Atkins (knee), guard Clint Boling (knee), linebacker Marquis Flowers (hamstring), cornerback Leon Hall (Achilles), punter Kevin Huber (neck), receiver Colin Lockett (hamstring), defensive tackle Zach Minter (back), defensive tackle Devon Still (back), and receiver Ryan Whalen (hamstring).

On NFI, which means something happened away from the team facility, are receiver Marvin Jones (ankle), cornerback Onterio McCalebb (knee), and quarterback AJ McCarron (shoulder).

Jones, who participated in the offseason program, apparently injured the ankle during the down time after OTAs.  It’s unclear how long any of the 12 players will be unavailable to practice in advance of the 2014 season.

No one cares about the bengals they will forever be a 0 and done playoff team as long as they have dalton.
    Khalil Mack> Clowney and Barr

Jesus, Huber is still recovering from the shellacking that Steeler gave him.

I think the Bengals are going to have a tough season. I don’t think they have the talent to compete with top teams. They were pretty fortunate in a couple of their wins last year.

    Nice start guys!…….Who is mack/clowney/barr?

Need geno, boling, and Marvin jones to get healthy if they wanna any chance of making a run this year!

HC and QB are everything in the NFL. If the Bengals upgraded both they’d be Superbowl contenders. That said this is a talented team.

It’s ok if that house gets crowded they can just put them in their trophy room.

    A quick history lesson!

Paul Brown is the guy who the Cleveland Browns were named after, he was their first coach when they were in a third-class, crappy USFL-type league a long time ago. No, that were not named after the color, that were named after him. Then later he got kinda fired by Art Modell in Cleveland, and from there eventually played a part in founding the Bengals in the AFL – and was their first coach, too. Then much later, Baltimore stole the Browns and painted them purple, and eventually Cleveland got a new Browns. It’s all very incestuous.

No wonder the Steelers own the lot of you.

    Go Steelers!

Making the playoffs the last 3 years in a row has taken it’s toll, that’s a lot of extra games…

  13. numba1wiscosportsfan says: Jul 21, 2014 4:43 PM

probably b/c they lost coach Zimmerman

  14. poesports says: Jul 21, 2014 4:47 PM

PUP and NFI are the only crowded house this team has since they barely sell out their own home games.

It’s only 3 extra games, because once they’ve gotten in, they’ve immediatly gotten out.

We are progressing as an organization. We used to have 12 guys either in jail or under house arrest. Now we only have 12 guys on the PUP or NFI list. Progress baby…. Progress!!

  21. whodey1982 says: Jul 21, 2014 9:41 PM

So what are the implications of this? Does this necessarily mean they will miss part of the season? I mean, I guess it means things are progressing slowly with their recoveries, but can anyone elaborate?

  22. tiggerblood says: Jul 21, 2014 10:36 PM

Yep they were very fortunate to win 11 games. They win the division again without a doubt.

  23. b412 says: Jul 21, 2014 10:39 PM

Keep on crying Bengal haters. We have enough talent to cover the AFC North. Our guys will be there to open the season. Folks, all the nasty Bengals talk is out of date. We are the best team in the division, will win the north this year, and finally get our playoff wins.

  24. pitt9292 says: Jul 21, 2014 10:45 PM

Last I checked the Steelers beat the tar out of the bengals in the last mtg last season.

  25. realmenwearstripes says: Jul 21, 2014 11:15 PM

The Bengals need a new training staff and medical personnel. The team is always hurt with little aches and pains. And we must have the first player in NFL history to be out with a “tweak,” whatever the hell that is.

  26. fairhooker43 says: Jul 22, 2014 4:37 AM

    Hey clashpoint

Here’s a real history lesson. When the Browns came into the NFL. They beat the defending champs the Eagles in their first game. Then went on to win the NFL Championship in their first year. And for that crappy league didn’t the 49ers also belong to it! At least in our screwed up history we never combined with another team. The squealers did twice!! I know, a long time ago! But get your history right!

    GO BROWNS!!!!!!!

  27. troy43mvp says: Jul 22, 2014 6:47 AM

Maybe they can bail some former players out of jail. Better yet grab some of the players from the last team that won a playoff game for the Bengals. I think you can find them at a bingo game at the Cincy Golden Years Retirement Home. Please don’t call after 6:30 pm however as they are sleeping.

  28. blackandorangestripes says: Jul 22, 2014 6:54 AM

And it was Jay Gruden that knocked the Bengals out of the playoffs in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Dalton just wasn’t able to overcome retarded game planning and calling.

I’m a Bengals fan, but I had to thumbs that one up. I appreciate good humor.

Can’t we put Marvin on PUP?
