The Patriots signed rookie defensive lineman Eathyn Manumaleuna on Monday, the club said.

In a corresponding roster move, New England waived rookie Seali’i Epenesa, a defensive lineman from UCLA.

This is the second NFL stint for the 25-year-old Manumaleuna, who signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent in May. The Giants waived him on June 19.

Manumaleuna (6-2, 305) notched 144 tackles (17 for loss) in 56 collegiate games for BYU. In New England, it’s possible he could get looks as a 4-3 defensive tackle and as a 3-4 defensive end.

He’ll be watching CJ2K high-stepping all the way to the end zone from about 80 yards away.

The NFL should have a player name Spelling Bee for the fans, and it would be a good way to get to know some of these players!

About the only chance the Jets have of beating the Patriots this year would be if Eathyn Manumaleuna is playing DT on the Patriots D line which is not very likely to happen.

They waived Seali’i Epenesa to make way for Eathyn Manumaleuna? Does the NFL now have a syllable cap as well as a salary cap…?

He may make the practice squad but not the regular season roster, he’s not the guy.
