Broncos make Joel Dreessen an even lower-paid ($0) tight end

AP

If Joel Dreesen thought tight end pay was unfairly low before, he’s in for a shock this summer, with no pay whatsoever.

The Broncos announced they had released the veteran tight end with a failed physical designation Tuesday.

He caught 41 passes for the Broncos two years ago, but only caught seven passes last year as Julius Thomas flourished as a target for more catches (and ostensibly, more money).

He had three operations on his left knee in the span of a year, and battled through problems with that joint this offseason.

So now the Broncos get to take his $2.5 million in base salary and give it to another tight end.

Or not.

  1. Give it to d.thonas and franchise tag oj next year if you have to but do not pay him top TE money for one good year in a pfm offence.
I love me some oj but remember this is his 3rd year and he only was healthy for one of them so let him prove he is worth the dough and it’d so then pay him but not yet d.Thomas has proven him self.

  2. One more thing funny how seashells fans call pfm a choker because he only one one supperbowl when there whole franchise has only one one? Does that mean Seattle is a bunch of chockers?

And I thought the schools in the South were bad.

  4. Well it’s not exactly healthy to have players that make multiple millions with struck nerves. They weren’t going to pay him more so they did him a solid so he can attempt to get more from another team. Let’s see how that works out.

Are you serious? Go to school son & get an education.

  7. In denver, there’s always a problem with this wr, this rb, this te, this one is injured, we didn’t play well, this guy wants too much money, so many excuses…blah blah. Has it occurred to anyone that the issue is with a 20mil/year qb who chokes, can’t handle a big game, and wants the personal awards instead of a team award? Get another qb and watch the problems go away.

And to think Raider Nation was embarrassed when the fan was shown holding the sign “your fired”. At least the fan at the game was drunk.

What he is trying to say however, is sound reasoning.
Seattle is one for two in their Super Bowl appearances.
Manning’s Colt teams were not top notch and would never have been to The Big Game without him.
In Denver last year, Manning had a top notch team with some issues(injured players) and re-wrote the record books but, they ran into a superior team and they lost.
You cannot responsibly, blame the loss all on Manning.
    Football is a TEAM SPORT.

  11. Thank heavens the Denver brain trust sent him walking. Now they’ll have more money to give to some other washed out veteran.

  12. Hey I was rooting for Manning and put money on the broncos!!!! bigggggest mistake ever!!! choke ,choke, choke!!!!!!!! Bronco fans don’t ever talk smack about kapp!! eeeeeevvvvveeeerrrrrr
    LOL
