APThe Colts saw running back Vick Ballard get carted off the field at practice on Friday and initial reports are that Ballard has suffered a severe injury for the second straight season.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that Ballard tore his Achilles tendon during the workout. That sets up another lost season for Ballard, who tore his ACL in the first week of the 2013 season and missed the remainder of the season.
It also leaves the Colts looking a bit shaky at running back heading into the preseason. Trent Richardson did not impress anyone after arriving in Indianapolis in a trade with the Browns after Ballard got hurt last season and Ahmad Bradshaw ended last season on injured reserve with a neck injury. Bradshaw has also dealt with foot troubles throughout his career, which creates further reason to worry about their depth.
Dan Herron, Chris Rainey and Zurlon Tipton round out the running back group, which makes it seem likely that the Colts will be looking for help outside the organization if and when they confirm Ballard’s diagnosis. Michael Bush, Felix Jones, Ronnie Brown and Willis McGahee are some unsigned veteran options that could be of interest to the Colts.
Are you kidding me? Damn it….
Our first legit injury of training camp in the NFL.
A blown Achilles is one of those really really bad ones – right up there with blowing a patella tendon. Ouch — sorry for VB — hope he can fight his way back, but that’s a toughie.
PFT, Ahmad Bradshaw is still on the roster, isn’t he?
They may want to call the 49ers and see if they want to trade any of their RB’s.
Vick told the driver to go straight back to Mississippi.
Looks like they’ll have to lean on their throwing game (again). Jadeveon Clowney must be salivating
I was really hoping he could stay healthy. We’ve been bitten by the injury bug so damn bad the past few years, it’s not even funny.
Mike Leshoure needs to get out of Detroit. We’ll take your worst CB.
The only two good people to EVER come out of Indiana are Larry Bird and Steve McQueen.
Felix the “cat”
Looks like Andrew Luck will be playing QB and RB. I’d say his value just went up.
I miss Irsay’s wild drunk tweets.

Yes he is.
As a Colts fan, I would love a trade with Seattle for Marshawn Lynch, if we have the cap space for him. And preferably don’t sacrifice a 1st rounder either.
Richardson is a stud. Reminds me of Eric Dickerson.
At that position, this may be it for his career. Teams won’t likely be lining up for a guy with these back to back injuries. Have never heard a bad word about the kid. It’s a shame.

The four-year, $30 million contract Lynch signed in March 2012 already has paid him $17 million. The $7.5 million average per year remains among the top six for NFL running backs,
Don’t think the Colts are willing to pay that big a price this season.
.
Here’s an example of why players will sometimes be solely driven by their contract. Their careers are one play away from being over.
.
Trent Richardson is gonna be fine, watch. Had no idea what he was doing in an offense he didn’t know last year, and it looked like it.
At least he made it to the show. Sorry kid, career is over. He was good when healthy.

More like Dick Erickson….I’m not sure what that means.
Balls.
Thus is first in a long series of ligament tears across NFL training camps this summer.
That sucks to hear. Sorry Colts fans. Sorry Ballard.
Condolences to Ballard on the injury. Still, I thought this was now a passing league, with running backs being more or less interchangeable. There appears to be an unwelcome amount of attention devoted to the position lately.
They should send Richardson and a 1st round pick to Seattle for lynch
Don’t worry. It’s about time for Trent Richardson to come good. And if he still fails to improve, Jim Irsay will get busy on twitter and negotiate a blockbuste trade.
We will give you Donald Brown back for Reggie Wayne!
Donald Brown for a 1st and a 3rd. 🙂
Hey Indy. Tampa here.
Ahhhhhhhhh, you got any Guards? I got a whole pile of RB’s here.
Oh wow, that’s just tough. I think I’ll use this as an example why sometimes players hold out next time I’m in that argument.

Quoted for truth. This poor guy worked his butt off to come back from last year and here he goes again. I wish him all my best in his recovery and I hope he gets another chance next year.
Sucks for Ballard, the guy can’t catch a break. The least talented RB situation in the league. The Colt’s as a whole are very limited talent wise as it is and if Luck struggles this will be a rough season for them.
Poor guy. He hasn’t been able to catch a break no matter how well he plays.
It’s sad that the guy who’s outplayed T-Rich over the past two seasons is cursed the way he is.
I hope he’s back on the field soon.
Feel bad for the cat. That being said, Colts fans continue to make Ballard out to be Bo Jackson. On a team with decent backs, he is the 3rd back. Maybe a FB type. He is ok.
The Colts should trade a first-rounder for an already-drafted first round RB.
“Trent Richardson is gonna be fine, watch. Had no idea what he was doing in an offense he didn’t know last year, and it looked like it.”
Then what was his excuse for the other years he’s been in the NFL?
Now that we know the Ray Rice suspension won’t be for too long, the Ravens have a few Running Backs that might be available. You guys want Justin Forsett?

Just run through the open hole. Its not rocket science
Wrong Vick.
Good luck VB.
