Sean McGrath led Chiefs tight ends in receptions last season, but he isn’t going to hold onto that status this season.

McGrath has decided to retire from the NFL after two seasons. McGrath, who had 26 catches last season after playing two games for the Seahawks in 2012, is dealing with some personal issues, according to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.

“McGrath is gonna retire, that’s what we’ve been told by him,” Reid said, via the Kansas City Star. “I wish him the best. He’s a good kid. It’s a personal decision he made.”

With the 26-year-old hanging up the cleats, the Chiefs will look to Travis Kelce and Anthony Fasano to be their top tight ends in 2014. That was the plan last year as well but injuries led the team to turn to McGrath, an option that won’t be available should injury strike again this season.
