Colts sign a running back

The Colts have added a running back to the roster in the wake of Vick Ballard’s Achilles injury.

The team announced Sunday that they have signed Davin Meggett to their 90-man roster. Meggett is the son of former NFL running back Dave Meggett and spent time on the team’s practice squad in 2012. He didn’t make the team last summer and went on to stints on practice squads in Dallas and Washington without playing in any regular season games.

Meggett is unlikely to climb to the top of the depth chart even with Ballard out of the lineup, but his arrival may signal that the Colts plan to give Chris Rainey or Dan Herron a chance to expand on their limited professional experience behind Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw. There are other veteran options on the open market. For now, though, it seems the Colts will be giving the in-house options the first crack at playing time.

The Colts also announced that linebacker Aaron Morgan is headed to injured reserve. Morgan has played 18 games for the Jaguars and Buccaneers over the last three seasons.

Wow the colts are thin at RB. They should call Cincy about Green Ellis.

What a sad RB situation. The sad part is that he would be better than that slow and visionless guy they traded a first round pick for.

Letting Donald Brown walk after the season he had last year was a big mistake at the time. Now…it’s even bigger.

As a Charger fan, I’m glad they jettisoned Brown because I think he’s a solid player and will contribute to our team.

I also think they would have been better off keeping him, but thanks, Colts!

I agree with the San Diego fans. Donald Brown will help the Bolts to a third place record in the AFC West. That might just be good enough to back into the playoffs as well, playing the #1 or #2 seed Colts in Indy. Ironic huh?
