LaMichael James carted off during 49ers practice

Another day, another injured tailback in San Francisco.

Via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, third-year running back LaMichael James was carted off during practice with an apparent wrist/arm injury.

James, who has appeared in only 14 regular-season games in two NFL seasons, has a chance to show that he can contribute to the base offense following the season-ending ACL injury suffered on Friday by Kendall Hunter.  While the specific nature and severity of the injury isn’t known, guys usually don’t get carted off with arm/wrist injuries.

Before practice, coach Jim Harbaugh said that the team has “complete and total confidence” in James, who along with Marcus Lattimore and Carlos Hyde will be counted on to make an impact, especially with Hunter done for the year.

In two seasons, James has only 39 regular-season rushing attempts for 184 yards.  He has caught five passes for 45 yards.  His primary contributions have come as a kickoff and punt returner, with 49 total returns in two season.

If you get carted off with a wrist injury, it’s got to be bad!

I didn’t trust LMJ as a running back but any injury to any person just plain sucks.

James has a history of dislocating his elbow. Happened mid season at oregon once and I don’t think he missed much time. Hopefully it’s not worse.

  12. 4evrnyt says: Jul 27, 2014 7:20 PM

Trade bait that was going to be a return specialist at most. Frees up reps for the other guys that have a better chance of actually contributing.

With that ridiculous O-line, I could probably rush for 1200 yards…

Newsflash, Gore is 31. Not good for 49er Nation.

I was a big fan of his at Oregon. Seems like the niners lost confidence in him after that fumble in the playoffs a few years back. Hope he is ok and gets to show he can play.

  17. petecarrolmorelikecheatpayroll says: Jul 27, 2014 7:30 PM

53 guys on a team, and they must have what, 4 players to have gone on IR already? Maybe that’s why they call themselves the 49ers!

  18. braceyourselffor12 says: Jul 27, 2014 7:31 PM

Well that’s one way to trim down a crowded back field.

Holy crap, here’s to not hearing about anymore injuries League wide.

  21. schmitty2 says: Jul 27, 2014 7:33 PM

A lot of people were questioning the drafting of Hyde seeing as the Niners already had a loaded backfield. At this rate this might have been the smartest pick of the draft.

Hunter and James are trash. Lattimore was going to be good, but his injury was just to much to overcome. Gore’s still got it but can’t go 20+ carries and be fresh for playoffs anymore. Hyde your up. 9ers miss playoffs imo.

  27. lionsdraftguy says: Jul 27, 2014 7:47 PM

Considering no one except 49ers fans like the 49ers, chances are no one cares.

Dislocated elbow, out for 4 weeks or more. They’ll need bodies or Latimore to step it up in a hurry.

It may be minor. The NFL CHannel is reporting that it’s a dislocated elbow….which can be minor or major.
    Stay tuned.

  31. largent80100 says: Jul 27, 2014 8:11 PM

Luckly for the Niners is that they chose the best RB in this draft in my opinion on Hyde to help them against that running back debacle.

With Hunter out for the season, Lattimore still on the NFI list and James injured, Hyde may jump to #2 on the chart and get more carries than expected even though Gore hasn’t slowed down despite being 31 years old and has always kept a YPC above 4.0

  32. beavertonsteve says: Jul 27, 2014 8:15 PM

    Dislocated elbow out 4 weeks.

  33. omnipotentcrab says: Jul 27, 2014 8:27 PM

It’s hard to fault him for not showing any remorse publicly, seeing as how remorse could easily be interpreted as a sign of guilt. Lawyer’s tell you shut your mouth for a reason and cops read you your Maranda rights for ar eason as well. Then again he wouldn’t need any of that if he didn’t slap around a woman so hard to feel bad for him.

  34. bassplucker says: Jul 27, 2014 8:31 PM

I would have to think a dislocated elbow could be pretty damn painful. To the point that yes, it’s very possible the player would need assistance off the field.

Nevermind loud mouth arrogant hawk fans talking trash. Truth is, we don’t know how to act.

  39. rainponcho87 says: Jul 27, 2014 8:39 PM

bummer, I was hoping for good things from James. He bulked up to 208 lbs. Unfortunately it looks like he is borderline capable of playing RB in the NFL. I don’t think is it is just “not using him right”. He goes down with even the slightest contact. Does not break tackles. Makes you appreciate how amazing Darryl Sproles is. At his size taking on huge players and doing some damage.

Maybe when you dislocate your elbow, it needs to be stabilized. Walking with a dislocated elbow not stabilized sounds stupid doesn’t it?

    —————————–

How’s that? Because one our backs (who is a second away from getting traded) is injured for a few weeks. The niners are stacked and you know it. But Im sure telling yourself they’re done probably makes you feel a little bit better.

  45. general74 says: Jul 27, 2014 9:04 PM

Wow things are working out for Hyde like they did for him at Ohio State. Hyde was just going to be the backup to Jordan Hall who got injured and then Hyde took the ball and never gave it back, now with all these injuries to the 49ers RBs its looking like it could work out the same in the NFL.

  46. MostlyRight says: Jul 27, 2014 9:04 PM

Gore and Lynch both have a lot of miles on them…gonna need quality backups in that division.

Best RB in the draft? Hyde was the 3rd best rb in the big ten last year he will amount to nothing.

smart move in retrospect by the Niners to take Hyde in the draft then.

There is nothing worse than losing a key contributor in training camp. I am a Seahawks fan but I can feel for the 49ers losing two tailbacks in two days since both the Niners and Hawks are run-first teams. I am almost glad that Lynch is holding out now so there is less of a chance he can be injured.

  55. pfu2 says: Jul 27, 2014 11:28 PM

They should trade the Browns a WR for Dion Lewis, he’s a bad man that could be had at a bargain price because all of a sudden, the Browns are loaded at the RB position!

  58. harshedmellow says: Jul 28, 2014 1:45 AM

He had an elbow at Oregon, and it was kinda gruesome on replay if memory serves… missed a few weeks. He’ll be fine. I hope he gets some carries this season, enough to get in a groove. He was electric at Oregon and I think he could do ok in the NFL… obviously hasn’t been true so far, obviously.

Gotta root ‘Hawks but I’m hoping LaMichael has a good year. Go Ducks!

  59. allday38 says: Jul 28, 2014 2:05 AM

@grilsteav the 49ers may very well sweep Seattle this season but that won’t change the fact that, in the most important match up these two franchises ever had against each other (the real Super Bowl 48) The Hawks won. Enjoy your season.
As for injuries, it’s part if the game. Gore isn’t exactly a bum. I expect the 49ers to pass more this season anyways, relieving Gore some as well. I hope all teams have a safe pre season and Go Hawks.

  60. general74 says: Jul 28, 2014 7:25 AM

How do you figure Hyde was the 3rd best RB in the Big Ten last year. He didn’t play in the first 3 games and his stats were still as good if not better than everyone else in the big ten. Best back by far in the big 10 and probably the best back in the country last year.
