LaMichael James likely to miss preseason with dislocated elbow

The good news for 49ers running back LaMichael James is that he is expected to be ready to go by Week One after suffering a practice injury on Sunday. The bad news is that the inexperienced James won’t benefit from any preseason experience.

James suffered a dislocated left elbow that will take about a month to heal, meaning he’s likely out for the entire preseason, ESPN reports. The 24-year-old James has just 39 carries for 184 yards so far in his NFL career, and the 49ers would have liked to see him get more action in the preseason, especially after they already lost running back Kendall Hunter for the entire season when he suffered a torn ACL on Friday.

The 49ers suddenly find themselves thin at running back, a position where they expected to be deep. In addition to the Hunter and James injuries, 2013 fourth-round pick Marcus Lattimore is still not practicing because he’s still not 100 percent recovered from the serious knee injury he suffered at South Carolina in 2012.

After starter Frank Gore, the only 49ers running backs able to practice right now are second-round pick Carlos Hyde and former practice-squad player Jewel Hampton.

Sucks when players get serious injuries before the season even starts.

The 49ers could be in huge trouble if Gore goes down. What makes the 49ers so skilled is there deep backfield. And if Gore gets injured, and he is getting older, they would have to depend on unproven rookies. This year could get ugly for the niners….I guess you could say this is better than losing Crabtree. But we will all find out.

There goes our stable….. however there’s no reason to think Gore won’t do what he’s been doing all these years, and Hyde is the best RB rookie since McCoy, possibly since Peterson

This kid sucks anyway. Kendall Hunter was/is a different story.

    Stiller 43,

Dude it hasn’t been a complete 2 years, and I don’t know hold old you are, but if you look a guy by the name of Garrison Hearst, he played 3 more years for the 49ers starting at around age 30 following 2 years of rehab following an ankle break and the complications that followed. Marcus is younger and they the 9ers have every reason to take their time with getting him back on the field. Mental and Physical, he will get there and he will be worth the wait.

Losing Kendall stings, I have lost all faith in LMJ.

Frankly I don’t think this guy is that good.

Oregon has a history of churning out busts in the form of skill positions.

Still, hate to see him get hurt and wish him the best of luck.

Hurts to even think about a dislocated elbow.

Too bad, hopefully the addition of WR and more experience CK can spread up the offense and make up for these losses in the backfield. As long as 21 is healthy and 1 or 2 backups we s/b fine
