The incredible shrinking Jordan Gross

Players come to camp every year saying they’re in the best shape of their life.

Former Panthers left tackle Jordan Gross clearly means it.

According to Adam Morgan of Black and Blue Review, Gross has dropped 70 pounds since retiring this offseason, from 305 down to 235.

“I don’t like it. I’m not a big fan of it. I think he looks kind of weird. He looks really unhealthy,” Panthers center Ryan Kalil cracked. “The problem is, he’s walking around and checking himself out in the mirror, and he thinks he looks cool. He just looks bad. And I’ve told him that many times.”

Gross will take it, even with the jabs coming from every direction.

“My wife’s freaking out. She says she’s having an affair on me with me,” Gross said. “I’ve been asked if my brother plays pro football. People look at me funny. I was actually out on our boat, and this girl said, ‘Are you Jordan Gross?’ and I said, ‘No. He’s fatter than I am.’ And she said, ‘Yeah and you’re probably better at football than him, too.’”

The shame of it is, he had finally grown into his ears, which are now again one of his more prominent features.

All jokes aside, the alarming rate at which Gross has dropped the weight underscores how hard it was for him to stay big enough to compete in the NFL. He looks like a fit person now, if not one who spent 12 years playing offensive line.

Cue the NFL clogged my arteries lawsuits….

So kids, this is what happens when you stop taking steroids. Any further questions can be directed to Mark Schlereth.

Good for him. He actually looks like a regular guy.

It’s the “I’ve stopped taking PEDs” diet.

NFL lineman eat every waking moment to maintain their girth. It’s as unhealthy as slamming your head against another object every play on the line.

Not very hard when you obviously took roids.

Goes to show how much HGH/steroids makes the body that much bigger. I doubt this guy got that big on diet alone.

Look at Brad Culpepper… did the same thing when he retired and does not even resemble the same person.
    Good for them!
Better than ballooning out of control like some ex-NFL players (William “The Fridge” Perry and Shawn King).

This is the FIRST thing offensive and defensive linemen should do when they retire. Drop all that weight once you don’t need it to earn a living anymore.

    Kalil thinks he looks unhealthy?

I never had to lose 70 lbs, but for some reason non-skinny people always find thin or lean people unhealthy.

And I thought Matt Birk was unrecognizable now due to all the weight he dropped. Wow.

Make your jokes about PEDS but I would bet the deed to my house Gross never took any. He’s a straight arrow.

Seriously, what does Kalil know about healthiness?

    One word: “STEROIDS.”

Congrats to Jordan. It took surgery for me to be able to lose 70#……

That’s impressive. Jeff Saturday did the same thing. These guys look like a totally different person after dropping all that weight. Good for them.

Seems like most players get smaller after their career is over. Diet aside, they are also not lifting weights nearly as much. Brad Culpepper and John Lynch are good examples. On the other hand, I saw Derrick Brooks throwing out the 1st pitch at the Rays yesterday and he didn’t look any smaller.

Brad Culpepper was always undersized for a DT, so while his post-playing physique is impressive it’s not super surprising.

But Matt Birk & Alan Faneca….shocking.

Good to see guys like Gross and Matt Birk dropping weight after their playing days are over. Life is a lot easier without all that extra weight on the wheels.

If a guy wants to live long enough to spend the $ he better lose the weight
