Andre Reed has very strong words for Bon Jovi

Reed Getty Images

You know that group hug we suggested earlier today to salvage Jon Bon Jovi’s bid for the Buffalo Bills?  The one with Bon Jovi and Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas and Bruce Smith and Andre Reed?

It might be a good idea to not invite Reed to the party.

[F]–k Bon Jovi!” Reed tells New York Magazine, via ESPN.com.  “”You might as well just take this city, throw it in the river, and let it go down Niagara Falls.”

We’ll interpret that as a “no” vote from Reed on Bon Jovi’s candidacy to buy the Bills.

Reed will be inducted into the Hall of Fame speech on Saturday night.  Hopefully, he won’t grab the mic and utter similar profanities.

Then again, hopefully he will.

Regardless of what happens on Saturday night, Reed may have given the Buffalo faithful three words that will become the prevailing chant that echoes from Fawcett Stadium out to I-77 when the Bills play the Giants to cap Hall of Fame weekend in Canton.

It always seems a little bush league to have the older guys like Kelly, Reed, and Thurman still hanging around the team (like the townies who still go to HS games in their 30s so they can relive their glory years), but in this case, I couldn’t be happier to have them still be involved.

I hope Reed stumps loud and proud for the Bills to stay as part of his induction speech. Would carry a lot of weight in those circumstances.

    F–k Bon Jovi, indeed.

Canadian Dollars, Trump Dollars, Euros, Rupees or Yen. While there is uncertainty and emotion for the Buffalo fans, make no mistake the Estate wants the max. This isn’t about what is best for the team, it’s all about fueling a bidding war and the most money will probably win.

Plus it would be strange to have 0 NY based teams. It’s incomprehensible to me.

Bon Hovi (That’s how I pronounce his name) isn’t the right owner for this team.

The other 31 teams are tired of supporting the team in Buffalo through revenue sharing because they can’t keep up. Putting a team in the 4th largest city in North America will not only generate more revenue but it will be Canada’s NFL team. They’ll be able to negotiate even larger tv contracts. Hello Toronto Buffalo’s.

No one except the Wilson estate trustees know what the priorities are for selling the team. Is it the highest price? Maybe. But if I’m Mary Wilson, I would could consider taking a hometown discount to a buyer who clearly will keep the team in Buffalo to save my late husband’s very good name. If the trust sells to Bon Jovi or a carpetbagger who will move team to LA, Erie County should then tear Ralph’s name off the stadium. Mary should not allow Ralph to become an Art Modell, and I think there would be an acceptable price discount to ensure that from Mary’s perspective.

  62. frankfordyellowjackets says: Jul 29, 2014 2:15 PM

You know they are trying to angle this to get Toronto involved, one way or another. I sense something shady, for sure.

They could pull a MLB and change the name to “The Buffalo Bills of Hamilton” and make an NFL stadium in Hamilton (halfway between Toronto and Buffalo.)

I can see why Bills fans are upset and don’t want BJ to own the team.

Buffalo always will be the only team that loss 4 super bowls in a row- which Reed was on, stop blaming or being jealous that Bon Jovi wants to buy the team and keep it in that disgusting place known as Buffalo, where going to Mc Donalds is the thing to do on Saturday night.

If I bought the team, I would re model and re group to another city that actually has things to do other than eating fast foods.

Buffalo doesn’t deserve the Bills and Reed should blame himself for the 4 straight super bowl losses , Bon Jovi doesn’t need this loser of a team, and Bills fans should be very lucky he is buying this deplorable franchise.

So Reed enjoy your Bills Super Bowl highlights DVD’s.

First Andre Reed should without a doubt be in the HOF.
At one time he was 2nd in catches & 3rd in Yardage. The game changed , the rules changed to pump up passing numbers, so other players have passed him in both statistics. He used to go over the middle when DB’s could take your head off. Guys like Ronnie Lott & Steve Atwater , not the lovefest we have today. Go Andre !

It is very clear that many posters don’t understand the relationship between the Bills and Bills Fans. Before my mother passed away in her 80′s she was concerned about the retirement of Adam Linger ( the Long Snapper) and the effect it might have on Bills Special Teams.
Bills fans know their team, the team is part of the fabric of the city.
They haven’t been to the playoffs in 14 years, but they still sell out.

Thanks for your support to all the fans of other teams. Particularly Cleveland. We appreciate it !

People come on here and try to make the argument that multimillionaires and billionaires should make decisions based upon something other than money.

Do you know how silly that sounds? Do you think these people made their money by NOT always making the decision that resulted in the biggest profit?

People should really do research on this topic before running their mouths.

    1) There is a whole, whole lot more than just a simple “which bidder has the most net worth” that is going into the entire sale of the estate, and what will become of it once the new owner surfaces

    2) There are over 10 groups which have submitted paperwork to bid. Aka the bidders this site talks about (Pegula, Golisano, Bon Jovi) don’t even make up one quarter ofthe bidders.

    3) Goliasano & Bon Jovi are the only ones who have publicly mentioned their plans and partnership agreements in their bids. No one else has. Which means we know nothing. And yet people are acting like Bon Jovi has already been named owner.

    4) You are completely ignorant and stuck on stereotypes from 1990 if you don’t think Buffalo is economically viable to support an NFL team long term.

Shut your pie holes and chime in on Ray Rice beating his wife. Not the business end of a Multi-Million dollar organization and Family worth 100′s of Millions of dollars as well.

So, Andre Reed loves the City of Buffalo? He live there? Do much charity there? Maybe so, I don’t know….. If he wants the team to stay put, he should raise the capital and buy the team!! Then he can keep them there, refuse to change their name, whatever he wants….

No need to son…Kim and Terry Pegula will be the owner’s of the Bills by years end…they just sold $1.75 billion of land so they have the capital right in their pockets to purchase the Bills

    Redskins fan living in NJ

always liked and respected Andre Reed….. a true #1 WR, very legit HOFer, better than CCarter who got in last year IMO

as for Bon Jovi…, gotta go with Andre here as well, and yes, he is a rich lib

Buffalo and western NY support the Bills, good fans….. absolutely don’t move but OK to play a game or two in Toronto to expand base

  103. politicallyincorrect says: Jul 29, 2014 4:54 PM

just bought son a Kelly Tough shirt as well

I know it was the AFC, but going to 4 straight SBowls may be the greatest team accomplishment in NFL history…. and, unlike the fraudulent Pats, they did not cheat

Bon Jovi seems to be a great fit for the Buffalo Bills—

A team that “Goes down in a Blaze of Glory” in so many ways!

Buffalo always will be the only team that loss 4 super bowls in a row- which Reed was on, stop blaming or being jealous that Bon Jovi wants to buy the team and keep it in that disgusting place known as Buffalo, where going to Mc Donalds is the thing to do on Saturday night.
    …………………
Lol that is quite literally the most incorrect and factually inaccurate thing I’ve ever read. You have obviously never been to Buffalo, nor met anyone who has.

Buffalo, for starters, has some of the best food in the country. No one eats fast food. There are far too many amazing options aside from fast food where anyone would waste their time eating fast food.

Secondly, its one of only 4 cities with bars open til 4am. But I suppose according to you, no one is at those bars on a Saturday night, right? Wrong. Buffalo has an extremely vibrant, alive and popular drinking scene with bars packed to the brims on the weekends until 4pm.

This is not to mention all the activities along the waterfront, and all the endless winter activities (because, yes we actually like and appreciate winter).

Keep spewing nonsensical, ignorant misinformed crap about a place which you know nothing about though.

LA resident here. Keep the Bills in Buffalo, Jags in Jax, Vikings in Minneapolis, Raiders in Oakland, Chargers in San Diego, etc. Give us a brand new expansion team we can truly call our own without other fans having to go through the heartbreak of losing a team because of greedy owners. Screw London and Toronto.

How is Andre Reed in the Hall of Fame and both Henry Ellard and Tim Brown are not? This is more like high school yearbook most popular contest, and not about numbers. ELLARD and BROWN belong in now.

Andre Reed is a 4 time LOSER who surely doesn’t belong in the HOF. Never had back to back 1000 yd. seasons, only 4 total. Nice player, should have to buy a ticket to get into Canton.

  116. jerseyshoregiant says: Jul 29, 2014 7:05 PM

Andre is just upset because when the Giants lit him up in the Super Bowl the first face he always saw after picking himself up off the ground was Bon Jovi on the Giants sideline. Just bad memories for Andre that’s all.

For all other cities’ fans, let your owner move your team and see how you feel!! Buffalo is NOT near the bottom of the NFL in attendance and they haven’t made the playoffs in 14yrs, and they didn’t do it with Toronto support.

For those citing the economy, Buffalo’s has been not good since the early ’80′s. All those years they led the NFL in attendance, they did it with a bad economy and very little fan support from Toronto.

If it is all about the money and business, then you don’t need the average, middle-class, football fan, which BTW is the majority of the TV viewers in America. It is your fantasy football leagues and people who wear NFL ware to work. So let’s see, that shoots down your TV contracts and merchandising. The Super Bowl is a farce at $1200 for endzone, top of the upper deck seats at the Meadowlands. That was the price the NFL offered to Buffalo Bills season ticketholders for the last SB. Obviously the rich and famous didn’t want to get cold.

So tell me, who is the game of professional football for? Didn’t see this kind of backlash when the Rams left LA did you, but you saw it in Cleveland and Baltimore. Hopefully these knucklehead owners have figured it out. If you want a team in Toronto, LA and/or London, then freaking expand.

Bon Jovi is a pawn, and obviously an artist who doesn’t stand behind his lyrics.

Welcome to the HoF Andre Reed!!! (And thank you for being so right about JBJ)

  120. sunzu717 says: Jul 29, 2014 9:24 PM

Toronto is the best option for the team long term. Nobody will buy it and keep it in Buffalo. At least in Toronto it’s an hour + away. LA or London, gone for good

  121. qdog112 says: Jul 29, 2014 10:43 PM

I find it odd that NFL.com didn’t mention what Reed said about Golden Boy, Johnny Manziel. It’s almost like they don’t want you to know:

Reed was with the author of the story, Reeves Wiedeman, when LeBron James announced Decision 2.0 — that he was returning to Cleveland. A nearby television flashed Manziel’s tweet calling his good friend James “my guy,” which apparently incited Reed.

“Who the (expletive) is Johnny Manziel?” Reed snaps in the article. “LeBron ain’t your guy! You’re not ‘Johnny Football.’ You’re ‘Johnny Rookie (expletive).’ ”

Reed told Wiedeman that a blue-collar town like Buffalo would never put up with Manziel’s antics, some of which have “alarmed” members of the Browns organization, sources told cleveland.com last week.

“They’d boo that (expletive) outta here,” Reed said. “The fans would put him in his place.”

Buffalo is a four time loser in the Super Bowl.

With losing 4 in a row.

JBJ has had tremendous success with music, the Bills are an embarrassment to football.

Buffalo citizens avg. weight 550 pounds.

    ” The Amish Rifle” lol

You should be bowing that JBJ is even considering buying the Tampa Rays of Football.

Buffalo deserves Donald Sterling as its owner.

  123. mskolnik says: Jul 30, 2014 2:40 AM

You people in Buffalo disgust me…jumping conclusions and everything. First of all since Jon has not stated that he would in fact take the team to Toronto, simply an option on the table, although it would be a good transition for a franchise that has done NOTHING since the 90′s. How can you knock someone, (especially one of Jon’s status) with the success he’s had and countless hours he spends helping others in need?!! All the haters need to shut their ugly faces and be open to change, if something’s not working you got to change things and just maybe a new location is necessary for the franchise at this point. Look at the Houston Oilers for example, leaving and going to TN, granted TN didn’t win the Superbowl in 1999 they came darn close, 2 yards away in fact. Baltimore Colts same thing when they moved to Indianapolis…put Indy on the map with 11 straight playoff appearances the past 12 years, a Superbowl win in 2007 and another appearance in ’09. It simply boggles my mind how heartless and classless people are when it comes to someone who has a good reputation, puts out awesome music continuously to boot (despite what some of you tasteless, Miley Cyrus-Justin Beiber loving morons think) Wish we could send THESE types of people to another planet so they can self indulge in their ignorance and awful taste in music!!
