Nick Barnett still on LB-needy Falcons’ radar

The Falcons brought in a few veteran linebackers earlier this offseason, but they still have their eyes on others.

According to Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com, veteran Nick Barnett is still “on the Falcons’ radar.”

Barnett worked out for them earlier this summer, but they signed Tim Dobbins and Pat Angerer. Angerer left practice Tuesday complaining of headaches, but there’s no indication injury would force a roster move.

The Falcons need to have some kind of mentor to go with a young group of linebackers. Barnett spent some time with the Redskins last year, but suffered a torn MCL in December.

If he’s well, he could be a solid addition, for the Falcons or any other team looking for depth.

I remember Barnett saying how happy he was to play for a winning team when he signed with Washington. He was tired of 6-10 with buffalo. Didn’t work out so well and now he’s jobless. I wonder if he realizes that he may contribute to his teams” failures.

Wow… Barnett was a solid, if unspectacular player 10 years ago when he was in his prime. Now? The near mention of his name screams desperation.
