Eric Berry out a couple of days with heel injury, Sanders Commings fractured his fibula

The Chiefs got good news and bad news on the two safeties that were injured during practice this week.

Coach Andy Reid said that Eric Berry injured his right ankle on Thursday, but the team updated that on Friday. Herbie Teope of the Associated PressĀ reports that the team is now calling it a right heel injury and said that Berry will miss a couple of days of practice while healing up.

The news is much less encouraging for Sanders Commings, who crumpled to the ground when running back Jamaal Charles threw a fake while carrying the ball during a play. Teope reports that trainer Rick Burkholder said that Commings fractured his fibula in addition to suffering the ankle injury that required him to go for surgery on Thursday.

“He’s got some rehab ahead of him,” Burkholder said.

The Chiefs signed Steve Gregory on Thursday to add some depth at safety as it looks like Commings, who played only three plays as a rookie because of a broken collarbone, is going to be out of the picture for a long while.

Steve Gregory, former Charger (and Patriot). Great guy… I’ll leave it at that.

Charles. outside the one freak injury, he has been a monster. they lose by 30, he still gives you a great game. there is no better back in the game, if Jamaal talked about himself more he would be thought of as the best. Ask Sherman, it works.

as for commings, huge loss for KC, 2nd year straight they put a lot on that guy performing in their 5-6 DB sets Sutton loves to throw out there. 2nd year he couldn’t make it out of training camp.

Can’t agree with this more. Career average of 5.6 ypc…that’s freaking insane! But he’s so humble and quiet, that the national media doesn’t drool all over him the way they do with the guys who like to remind everyone how good they are (I’m looking at you “AD”, “Shady”, “CJ2K”).

Charles is bad azz and highly respected in the AFC West. Unfortunately, he plays for a quiet mid market team in central US. If Charles were on the left or right coast, his endorsement deals would be through the roof. Hell of a player that nobody knows about.
