Michael Strahan greets his gap-toothed bust in Canton

That was the theme of Michael Strahan’s speech upon entry to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“My life is improbable,” Strahan said.  “I’m an improbable Hall of Famer.  I’m an improbable football player.”

It started when Strahan was an overweight teenager, and he decided to get in shape.

“I went out and got Jane Fonda tapes,” Strahan said.

It led to lifting weights with his father before learning football from his uncle to earning a scholarship at Texas Southern to landing with the Giants in the NFL.

It culminated in an improbable Super Bowl win to cap his career, and an even more improbable career as a mainstream morning-show host.

And his speech capped an improbable night of impossibly long speeches that seemed like they would never end.  Strahan’s was as long as (if not longer than) anyone’s, but it was by far the most engaging, humorous, and entertaining.

He stole tiki barbers career from him, hilarious

Great players! Entertaining speeches! Strahan’s was fantastic! Congrats to all! Gotta get to the hall someday!

  3. thestrategyexpert says: Aug 2, 2014 11:58 PM

Improbable was the likelihood before he decided to show us all how it’s done.

  4. vusnu says: Aug 2, 2014 11:59 PM

Am I the only one that finds that sculpture offensive? Hey Strahan, did you ever hear of Invisalign? You can afford it.

  5. pksoze says: Aug 3, 2014 12:02 AM

All the speeches were long and some of the players looked like they could use some coaching on how to deliver speeches; however it was their day and some of them waited 30 years for the moment if not longer so I don’t begrudge them.

With that said Strahan showed why he is on tv he was funny, sentimental, and respectful all at the same time it was a good way to end the night.

  6. thetooloftools says: Aug 3, 2014 12:03 AM

he is a great dude. Totally relateable.

  7. mshawn75 says: Aug 3, 2014 12:14 AM

Who actually sat through this entire mess? After 15 minutes have a band start playing and go to commercial.

  8. derekgorgonstar says: Aug 3, 2014 12:23 AM

Erik Williams and Jon Runyan were two of the meanest SOBs to ever put on pads, and they gave Strahan a war on every play.

And he’d still rather thank them in his induction speech than his ex-wife.

  9. hyzers says: Aug 3, 2014 12:28 AM

Turned out pretty good. Congrats to Strahan.
Always liked him as a player and personality.

  10. leroysbutler says: Aug 3, 2014 12:38 AM

    More deserving than Sapp.

  11. registerthiscrap says: Aug 3, 2014 12:43 AM

Loved the speeches. True football fans I’m sure did.

  12. pittsteelers101 says: Aug 3, 2014 1:14 AM

Ask Jon Ritchie that question! Mike Florio knows what I am talking about! Lol

What a success story. Go Strahan.

  15. onenineninee says: Aug 3, 2014 1:54 AM

Strahan will probably make 100 to 150 mil in the next 5 years. His ex-wife who thought she won a jackpot several years ago when she took half his money must be kicking herself.

  16. croghan1919 says: Aug 3, 2014 1:59 AM

What I find improbable is that some find Strahan’s HOF bust “OFFENSIVE” because of a gap in his teeth.
Congradulations to the HOF class of 2014!

  17. 700levelvet says: Aug 3, 2014 2:01 AM

How the hell is Strahan in the HOF but Rice and Haley not? Seriously, this isn’t a celebrity hall of fame, it’s for the men who played the game… What a farce , he like sapp and Irvin and carter are inthere because of their post career jobs … What a joke

  18. 4512dawg4512 says: Aug 3, 2014 2:04 AM

Cant wait to hear T.O’s speech. He’s got a heck of a story, that’ll be a good one

  19. micknangold says: Aug 3, 2014 2:11 AM

Aeneas Williams’ speech was much, much better.

  20. averagjoe says: Aug 3, 2014 2:19 AM

If not for the gapped tooth I wouldn’t have recognized the bust. Not a good likeness at all.

  21. babygaga19 says: Aug 3, 2014 2:32 AM

I heard Eddie Murphy was his presenter. True?

  22. wyrdawg says: Aug 3, 2014 2:37 AM

I gotta say.. whomever is doing the busts these days is knocking it out of the ballpark!

Man! That actually looks like him!

  23. csbanter says: Aug 3, 2014 3:01 AM

The speeches were great, so what if they ran long. This is what true NFL fans want to see.

  24. slugbaitspace says: Aug 3, 2014 3:18 AM

That sack on Farve wasn’t all that improbable…

  25. n0hopeleft says: Aug 3, 2014 3:26 AM

All class. All the time. Went out on top, and a true face of the Giants and the NFL.

  26. packmanfan says: Aug 3, 2014 3:34 AM

How does one go from being on top of the world by winning a big championship to the bottom of the barrel of hosting a morning show with Kelly Ripa?

  27. george1859 says: Aug 3, 2014 6:02 AM

Probably the best, most lifelike bust in Canton. Nice job.
As far as his teeth, I think Stra is comfortable with who he is.

  28. olcap says: Aug 3, 2014 6:42 AM

For the artist that had such a difficult time with the sculpture, I’m sorry, but it doesn’t really look like Strahan’s gap. It looks more like a missing tooth to me.

  29. TheWizard says: Aug 3, 2014 8:23 AM

Two things I remember from him. The Brett Favre laydown sack and the video of him screaming “we stomped you out!” after the first Super Bowl win over the Patriots.

    Class guy.

  30. pologroundsvet says: Aug 3, 2014 8:48 AM

He had my greatest respect until he mentioned Hanoi Jane.

  31. joetoronto says: Aug 3, 2014 8:56 AM

Hats off to Strahan, he truly deserved making the HOF, unlike Andre Reed.

  32. ialwayswantedtobeabanker says: Aug 3, 2014 9:04 AM

I dig how Stray embraces the gap — it’s part of what makes him solid. Secure in himself in every way and a great sense of humor — gots to respect dat!

  33. cubano76 says: Aug 3, 2014 9:11 AM

I know it looks like him. By seeing that gap in his mouth makes me feel awkward. I don’t know about that.

  34. officialgame says: Aug 3, 2014 9:15 AM

They need to give these guys a time limit or at least limit how many times they can say “thank you”. It’s gotten worse then the Academy Awards.

  35. mrpresident2 says: Aug 3, 2014 9:20 AM

Even as a Patriots fan, I’ll freely admit Strahan is a class act. Good for him for getting into the HOF.

  36. jstdad says: Aug 3, 2014 9:32 AM

I have seen the Favre sack as many times as anyone else. I still see a QB knowing he is going to get nailed no matter what he does, go into a fetal position to pretext himself and the ball ALS Tom Brady. I don’t get the outrage.

  37. khar9 says: Aug 3, 2014 9:34 AM

    He’s a real class act

  38. blackqbwhiterb says: Aug 3, 2014 10:15 AM

I wanted to hear him, I truly did…. But after the first six, I really could stay up no longer. Went to bed while Andre Reed was still droning on & on like so much background noise….

  39. bassplucker says: Aug 3, 2014 10:20 AM

Tennessee State, Texas Southern, So Miss, Southern, and Kutztown… small schools representin’ hard last night.

  40. wishingtonredslur says: Aug 3, 2014 10:33 AM

I like it. Looks just like him.

  41. kev86 says: Aug 3, 2014 10:35 AM

“believe it and it will happen” – Michael Strahan. NFL and NYG legend.

  42. detroitdawg says: Aug 3, 2014 11:57 AM

His signature is the gap. Early in his career he was going to get it fixed but his kids didn’t want him to. I have no problem with his gap being on the bust but I do have a problem with the bust looking nothing like him.

  43. newtdobbs says: Aug 3, 2014 12:01 PM

    Charles Haley.
    5 rings.

  44. raoool says: Aug 3, 2014 12:36 PM

As an Eagles fan, it was always hard to like Strahan, but the guy is a class act.

As to those who think the bust is not a good likeness, perhaps a visit to the optometrist is in order. (Let’s just hope we never need you as a witness).

Congrats to this year’s HOF inductees.

    Good group.

    Micheal Strahan 429 tackles …..
    Derrick Brooks 1297 Tackles …..
    Aeneas Williams 672 tackles ……

    Where is Clay ??
Clay Mathews Jr. 1561 tackles …..

  46. kev86 says: Aug 3, 2014 12:48 PM

18-1 – Thank you Michael Strahan

  47. pittsteelers101 says: Aug 3, 2014 1:02 PM

He is still a wife beater in my eyes!He beat is ex-wife and no one talks about but everyone is talking about Ray Rice! Kevin Green 160 quarterback sacks, Charles Haley 5 rings and dominated his position against the best left tackles unlike Michael when he had to switch to the weak side , Simeon Rice, joe Klecko all pro at 4 different positions and mark Gastineau 107 1/2 quarterback sacks in a 10 year career in which he retired in his prime 5x pro bowl player 5x all pro and is rated in the top ten pass rushers of all time! These guys should all be in the hall of fame!!! Bottom line have the players vote not the media!

  48. floratiotime says: Aug 3, 2014 1:13 PM

Tackles … stop comparing different positions. It works like this …

    Passes completed …

    Clay Matthews … zero
    Derrick Brooks … zero
    Charles Haley … zero
    Mark Sanchez … 1,028

Same thing with LBs and DEs.

  49. thegronk87 says: Aug 3, 2014 2:48 PM

  50. dubblelznhell says: Aug 3, 2014 2:52 PM

Looks like dr dre with a gapped teeth

  51. thetooloftools says: Aug 3, 2014 4:13 PM

does he still floss with barbed wire?

  52. pittsteelers101 says: Aug 3, 2014 4:34 PM

His first four years he barely had any sacks then he switch to the weak side! In my book Kevin Green is better!

  53. scbaby2013 says: Aug 6, 2014 11:33 PM

I always liked strahan. Congrats champ
