One of the Falcons’ key offseason additions to their defensive line reportedly could have a broken wrist.

Rookie defensive end Ra’Shede Hageman is “believed” to have a hairline fracture in his wrist, ESPN.com’s Vaughn McClure reported Sunday.

According to McClure, Hageman threw a punch at center Joe Hawley during Sunday’s practice. He was then tended to by the club’s medical staff.

“I think we’re all talking about competing and fighting for jobs, but we’re not talking about fighting each other,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said after practice, according to ESPN.com. “We’ve got to understand that. It’s not what we’re about.

A second-round pick from Minnesota, Hageman was the Falcons’ first defensive selection in the 2014 NFL Draft.

UPDATE 8:57 p.m. ET:  Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Hageman does not have a broken wrist.

Unfortunately too many players do this.

It’s only a minuscule fracture but hope that’s a lesson for everyone on the team not wearing boxing gloves. Should be back in time for week 1

Hageman would have a ring if he played for Seattle. Of course he would have been on the bench.

    Who punches a helmet?
Throw a rib shot if you feel like you need to throw a blow. No padding there.

Ever watched a football game before? They all do it. Generally, players get tagged as being stupid when this happens. I’m thinking the adrenaline and testosterone flowing through these guys is beyond our understanding.

Tough break for the Falcons and Hageman. Seems so unnecessary too.

Both Hageman’s parents are attorneys, so Joe Hawley had best be careful. And taintedsaints there’s this unique thing people do in MN after HS — it’s called college.
