No decision yet on Glenn Dorsey

Dorsey

As expected, 49ers defensive tackle underwent surgery on Monday to repair a torn biceps muscle. For now, no decision has been made about whether he will be placed on injured reserve.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the tear was a clean one, which shortens the timetable for recovery. The question for the 49ers becomes whether they will carry him on the active roster while he’s unavailable to play, whether they will put him on IR and shut him down for the season, or whether they’ll use the one-per-club injured reserve with designation to return.

The PUP list isn’t an option because Dorsey has passed his preseason physical and participate in training camp. He’ll continue to count against the 90-man roster unless and until he is placed on IR. The deadline for using the return designation on Dorsey, which requires him to miss eight weeks of the regular season, is September 2.

Dorsey started 13 games last year in place of Ian Williams, who suffered a season-ending injury during a Week Two game at Seattle.
