Odell Beckham “getting close” to return

2014 NFL Draft

The Giants haven’t had first-round pick Odell Beckham on the field for a while, but it looks like the wide receiver won’t be on the sideline much longer.

Beckham injured his hamstring during the team’s opening practice of training camp and has been limited to rehab and other individual work since then. Jordan Raanan of NJ.com reports that his work progressed to running outside on Wednesday and coach Tom Coughlin said the team expects Beckham to do more work in the the near future.

“Sounds like he’s getting close,” Coughlin said. “They have him doing a lot of things. They’re going to push him to do a little bit more today and then they are going to get a quarterback to throw to him and see how that goes too. So he’s getting close.”

Beckham was also bothered by hamstring trouble in the spring, so one would expect the Giants to be cautious as Beckham ramps back up to full speed in the coming weeks. He’ll miss at least two preseason games, which could limit his workload early in the season but that’s a far better fate than being totally sidelined during his first year in the NFL.
