Titans cut the cord on Tyler Wilson, sign Chase Coffman

The Titans added some depth at tight end, and cleaned up the depth chart at quarterback.

The team announced they had agreed to terms with tight end Chase Coffman and defensive tackle Lanier Coleman, while placing tight end Dorin Dickerson on injured reserve and waiving quarterback Tyler Wilson.

Wilson was an unneeded part after the Titans signed Clipboard Jesus Charlie Whitehurst this offseason, and drafted Zach Mettenberger, and this move only cements his status as one of the worst picks of last year’s draft.

The Raiders took him in the fourth round and waived him after training camp, a truly ridiculous waste of a resource. The Titans signed him off Oakland’s practice squad last December.

Coffman has spent time with the Bengals, Buccaneers and Falcons, giving them some experienced depth after Dickerson was injured in practice last week.

    He’s better than Brandon Weeden

  2. racerx1225 says: Aug 6, 2014 10:30 AM

And the Raiders signed UDFA Matt McGloin in a stroke of genius to make up for it and he did well as a rookie starting last year.

    He’s better than Jake Locker

Raiders also got the best QB in the draft this year. Carr is going to blow them all away.

  5. racerx1225 says: Aug 6, 2014 10:32 AM

And they also got the best player in the draft, Khalil Mack. The next Defensive Rookie of the Year.

    Priceless.

At this point, I’d be surprised if this guy ever takes a snap in the NFL.

unbelievable that the raiders would cut a guy before training camp when they drafted him in the 4th round. If that was a 7th rounder than I could understand, but a 4th? Talk about a waste of a pick. more often than not you can get a guy who can at least contribute on special teams in the 4th round.

Whitehurst to Coffman!… as a Packer fan I just want to see that once this weekend…

Cincy whiffed when they drafted this stiff a few years back..& now Tennessee has done the same

The next successful Bobby Petrino produced NFL QB will be the first one.

Tyler Wilson is very tough. That doesn’t mean you can play.

Can’t get that faider stank off him.

Bengalboy, Tennessee didn’t draft him, whoever it is you’re talking about. A player can’t be drafted twice.

lol…I remember when Hawks fans were hyping up Whitehurst to be a starting QB.

I wonder if racerx is a Raiders fan…says Raiders got the best UDFA last year, best QB this year, and best overall player this year. And yet, they’ll still finish last in the AFC West.

Coffman was an interesting guy when he was with the Bengals; he had a concussion which he never really bounced back from, but has incredible hands; his blocking also was below average, but there’s a lot of potential there and he’s a high-quality person, so he adds to team chemistry in that regard.

  18. bengalsucker says: Aug 6, 2014 11:11 AM

Cincy drafted Coffman, a non blocking TE in college, to be a blocking TE in the NFL. That was obviously a mistake from the beginning.

Of course when Wilson was originally drafted in the 4th, draft analysts called it a coup, said it was a great value pick.

And there is good ole’ dick50 spewing his Raider crap as always. Do you just troll every article and only post if there is a mention of the Raiders?

Of course you do…because I can’t find any other story you’ve ever commented on besides something to do with the Raiders. And ‘Faider’? Really…that’s all you got? Sooo original.

  21. realfootballfan says: Aug 6, 2014 11:58 AM

Wonder where all those pundits are who thought Wilson would be starting for the Raiders now.

  22. psj3809 says: Aug 6, 2014 1:05 PM

Remember reading an Nfl preview mag for the upcoming season a few years back. Showed a mock draft for the following year. Tyler Wilson was the top choice !

How the mighty have fallen. Wasted pick for Oakland but who knows what really went on. Shame but Wilson’s only got himself to blame. Had great potential in college. Now he’ll struggle to make a team

Well, The Texans have already waived two 3rd rd picks from last years draft, so I think they stand as the worst drafting team from last year’s draft.

  26. radrntn says: Aug 6, 2014 5:28 PM

Hate on Darin, we truly wouldn’t expect any other resource from you.

Go Raiders!!!! & Good luck to any QB taken in the 4th rd or later in the history of the nfl.

Teams draft linebackers in the 4th round because they can play special teams. They draft quarterbacks in the 4th round because everyone can use another quarterback.
